Assignment/Skirmish Question
« on: May 06, 2009, 10:30:18 PM »
Something that's always bugged me - do I have to attack with every minion I have?

For example, if I have a Desert Lancers in play and really want to take control of a site, can I keep him back (ie not participate in a skirmish) to make sure he's able to exert twice in the regroup phase?

Thanks in advance to whoever helps me out.

No you can't....the Free people's player assigns minions, and even when you have one left, it has to be assigned

I'm not sure that's strictly true. Certainly the FP player assigns minions to companions, but any leftover minions can be put anywhere by its owner, and I'm pretty sure this is an optional thing - if you want, you can leave your unassigned minions out of it. But, why would you want to? If you have left over minions, chances are you can kill someone.

I agree with Thran, any remaining minions you can choose not to assign i think.

Thranduil and lem0nhead are correct. The FP player gets first chance to assign minions, and it is the SP's option to assign any leftover minions.

Personally, I could see the advantage of this, if you thought that your opponent might have a trick up their sleeve to wound your minions during the skirmish (PATHS, Shadowplay/Unheeded, Eowyn LoI, etc).

Could happen with ambush. FP player declines to prevent the Shadow player from adding twilight, and the Shadow player declines... since the minion would lose anyway, but might make a double move less appealing? Maybe not the most common of cases, but it does have its use.
