I always thought Counter of Foes was one of the best gimlis especially for a common. I think it would get alot more use if it weren't for Gimli BoG. Guess you dont want too big of a fellowship but it might be rough if you didnt draw the other companions early enough.

it'd be nice if you could combin counter of foes with fearless axeman to keep them from discarding your endurance of dwarves...

I think Dwarven Bracers will have to do. I would add Great Day, Great hour, and maybe Till Durin Wakes Again or Gimli's Battle Axe, VW.
