canceling ringbearer skirmishes
« on: May 22, 2009, 12:11:06 AM »
Ok i know i played way back in the day but I had never heard of a ringbearer skirmish not being able to be canceled until today so i am wondering in what formats is it legal to cancel it ringbearers skirmish?
I have hear both just FoTR and pre-reflections blocks and was just wondering what formats had what rulings?

thanks in advance  ;D

Ring-bearer skirmishes can be canceled in Fellowship and Tower blocks, and sometimes King (as long as the reflections set is not used).

Yeah its basically allowed before the alternate ring bearers come in. Thats what the ruling was for primarily.

What would you use to cancel the skirmish in King?

Well, according to the Comprehensive Rulebook, canceling skirmishes involving the Ring-bearer just isn't allowed at all.  However, it was always legal in the earlier days of the game, so if you want to play with "classic" rules, you could make it legal.  =P

IMO if you play in FoTR or TT block, you are stepping back in time. :) Cancelling RB skirmishes was normal back then... cards like Boromir's Gauntlets made them have to rule it out later.

Just clarifying - if you play FoTR block you can cancel skirmish involving Frodo. Or has the rule been removed, thus now affecting FoTR block? Mr Lurtzy says yes - Alazzar makes it unclear.

Well, officially you cannot cancel ring-bearer skirmishes... but I think that rule is bad, because both the FOTR and TTT blocks were designed with the intent of ring-bearer skirmishes being allowed to be canceled. I personally won't play unless my oppenent agrees to let the canceling.

On GCCG, most people agree to play blocks with the rules that they had back in that time. So cancelling is okay, despite it being in the rules that you cannot cancel skirmishes with ring-bearers.
