Sauron skirmish wounding

I played this FOTR Block game with Kriton on gccg today...

Here is the situation:

Orc ambusher vs Gimli with Gimli's Battle Axe
Orc Hunters vs Farin

I begin the skirmish phase with Gimli's fight... but he exert Hunters to wound Farin...

Can he actually do that or he has to wait until Farin's skirmish starts?

He must wait to exert the Orc Hunters until Farin's skirmish starts. The Orc Hunters will not be skirmishING Farin until then, and will only be ASSIGNED to skirmish up to that point.

Just to add to it.. as I understand things Orc Hunters could in fact exert, but since he is not currently skirmishing Farin the effect would not happen.

I realize you wouldn't want to do that, but I just wanted to note this because there are other skirmish abilities which this could come into play.

The same as Glorfindel, RiW : He can reveal the top card, even if he is not assigned to a skirmish.

Yeah you can pay the cost (exert Orc Hunters), then you try and perform the effect, but there's no companion skirmishing Orc Hunters so the ability does nothing.

I'm going to add unnecessary weight to Hawkeye's assessment! :up:
