3 decks
« on: June 05, 2009, 05:13:28 PM »
Hello,

Yesterday I finally got the 4 shadows boxes I've been waiting for. Imrahil and I split the cards, and although we got some,
erm....interesting pulls (like 7 copies of Lurtz, 3 of them foil  ](*,)), it was overall a good box. Finally, I can pull off some of the [Orc], [Men], and [Uruk] strategies I've never had the right cards to make before! On this thread I will eventually post 3 decks, using as many of my new cards as possible, for you to review. Here's the first one.

Frodo, Old Bilbo's Heir with ATAR

Freeps:

Smeagol, Slinker (starting)
Sam, GEW (starting)
Bilbo, ARB (starting)
Sting, BH x2
Hobbit sword x2
Daddy Twofoot,NDN x2
A Promise x4
The Gaffer, Sam's Father
Hobbit Party Guest x3
Phial of Galadriel, TLoE
Concerning Hobbits x2
Hobbit Intuition
Gladden Homestead
Follow Smeagol
Salt from the Shire
There's Another Way x2
Poor Wretch x2
Tom Bombadil x2
Humble Homestead
Habits of Home x2
Safe Passage x2

Shadow:

Porter Troll x3
Beastly Olog-Hai x4
Ordnance Grunt
Emboldened Orc
Mocking Goblin x4
Undisciplined x2
Bladed Gauntlets x3
Isengard Underling x4
Orkish Smith
Scurrying Goblin x4
Bound to its Fate x4
Spurred to Battle x4

Freep: Choke, remove burdens with Bilbo, and deal with big minions with your invincible Smeagol.
Shadow: Add burdens like crazy, mess with assignments, and if all else fails destroy them with 900 trolls. :uh-huh:

You do know Orkish Smith is x-din expanded don't you? And BTW, If your doing corruption, you need Retribution, Mordor Scimatar, Morgul Tormentor, Orc Miscrient.... You see what I mean right?

so use lurtz!

no definitely agree with GoG also Orc Tormentor, a couple abiding evil couldn't hurt, orc crusher and Orkish Sneak are the only other ones

Sorry, I thought it was R-listed.

I thought about those.
1. Retribution- Don't have.
2. Mordor Scimitar- Not useful at all without Retribution.
3. Morgul Tormentor- I like this one. I'll see how many copies I can find.
4. Orc Miscreant- Would help, but right now I'm avoiding all the minions that say, "To play, spot an [Orc] minion". Right now I have 8 trolls with that effect, and I really don't want to get stuck with 3 minions in hand that I can't play. The obvious solution would be to get rid of the trolls, but I wanted this to be predominately a troll deck. (They're more fun, anyway. ;D)

I am, in another deck. :)

Once again, I either don't have those cards or I'm avoiding them for the same reason as I'm avoiding Miscreant. Except for Orc Tormentor, of course.

I don't think this deck will normally corrupt, but I was hoping it would slow the free peoples down enough, with events being discarded. I thought this would be enough, because it has the capacity to add 15 burdens.
I'm still new to these cultures, so thanks for the help!

Well, I'm back on here again after a bit of an absence. I've gone through several decks since the troll deck, and finally I think I have one (untested) deck that looks promising enough to put on here.

Ringbearer: Frodo w/Atar
Sites: Battlegrounds. Doesn't really matter which.

Free Peoples: (34)

Gamling, DotH (Starting)
Pippin, WobaS (Starting)
Merry, Swordthain (Starting)
Erland, DC x2
Gandalf, LotC x4
Eomer, EL
Eowyn, LoR
Erkenbrand, MoW
Riders of the Mark
Theoden, TR
Speak Friend and Enter x2
Inspiration x4
Prolonged Struggle x2
Rohirrim Bow x4
Rohirrim Shield x2
Gandalf's Staff x2
Shadowplay x4

Shadow: (34)

Force of Uruk-Hai x3
Lurtz, MotWW x3
Determined Uruk x2
Watchman Uruk x4
Sentinel Uruk x3
Strange Device
Worthy of Mordor
Devastation
Vicious Uruk
Saruman, Agent of the Dark Lord x2
Isengard Sword x2
Murderous Uruk x3
Suffered much Loss
Isengard Siege Bow x3
Furor x2
Weapon of Opportunity x2

The free peoples side uses Shadowplay to exhaust minions, the bow to kill, and inspiration and Erland to overwhelm whatever's left. The bouncing hobbits make sure you always can get a -6 out of inspiration. The shadow is my attempt to make a focused deck with my random collection of [Uruk-hai] cards. I have 4 copies of every c/u from shadows, the Saruman deck, and a few others.

Don't know whether your shadow is consistant enough, but like you said it is a deck with cards you have. If you go with the battleground flavor, try to get Invincible Uruk, he rocks on battleground.
I love the Inspiration twist, just love it. Prolonged Struggle will be tricky, you can't bid a single burden, otherwise you have no companions with resistance 7.

yup, I can attest to the minion side being terrible.  :-)  Sorry Mr. Took, but it wasn't one of your better ideas.

The freeps are frustrating to face, but they need some hobbit protection.  Without the hobbits, this deck gets very hard to play, very fast.  It has a chance because of the sheer number of companions present in the deck, but not a good one.

why don't you play the gandalf powerful guide and use some spells to finish off minions. cleaner methinks

oh, but you probably don't have powerful guide. servant of the secret fire could be nice too. that way you can help any companion win a skirmish. not just gandalf.
