how to kill...
« on: June 16, 2009, 09:20:03 AM »
Hi guys,

as I recognized, REALLY many decks play Aragorn Thorongil - well, that's ok.

Furthermore I realized that Gorn often is played with Anduril - Anduril is a pretty strong hand weapon, gives strength and vitality and also damage bonus, is an artifact, etc.

So... how shall I come to the point... erm... HOW would you try to kill gorn in game?

In my opinion, there are three nearly unkillable comps in game: Aragorn with Anduril, Elendil and Gil-Galad, especially with Aiglos. Orkish Lackey is an idea... but not very reliable... so, any idea?

e.g. you play the rog, dom: gorn may lose, but won't die... I am looking for a trick that kills such big comps... :-)

so, is there some input from your side? let me know
Mithrandir I am known to the Elves, Tharkun to the dwarves; Olorin was the name in my youth in the West which is forgotten, in the South Incanus, in the North Gandalf; into the East I will not go."

:uh-huh: Discard the companion you dislike. (Beauty is fading)

;D Overwhelm the ringbearer. (Goblin Runner...)

8-) Overwhelm the companion you dislike (Abiding Evil)

 Kill the companion you dislike (Ulaire Cantea, Black Assassin)

 Kill any companion (The Sceptre of the dark Lord).

:) Ignore Aragorn, Elendil and Gil-Galad (Shelob, her Ladyship).

 Kill with archery (Mumak Rider...).

\:D/ Discard Anduril, Aiglos (Stricken dumb, Grond, Hammer of the underworld).

:hey: Reduce move limit (The number must be few).

I believe aiglos and anduril are artifacts, not possessions, so the possession discard ideas won't work.

erm? Reliability? pool? only very little chance that it would work

;D Corrupt the ringbearer. (Goblin Runner...)
don't understand ???

8-) Overwhelm the companion you dislike (Abiding Evil)
this might work if a lot burdens there

 Kill the companion you dislike (Ulaire Cantea, Black Assassin)
how shall I ensure to spot 6 comps? --> not reliable at all

 Kill any companion (The Sceptre of the dark Lord).
not really reliable

:) Ignore Aragorn, Elendil and Gil-Galad (Shelob, her Ladyship).
completley off topic

 Kill with archery (Mumak Rider...).
I don't think mumak rider kill's Aragorn

\:D/ Discard Anduril, Aiglos (Ulaire Cantea, Thrall of the one).
absolutely impossible

:hey: Reduce move limit (The number must be few).
completely off-topic!

erm... my fault if I not mentioned that I refuse solutions only possible in playing the broken expanded format...

Fierce in Despair could be and would be reliable. Bold Men and Grim is also nice, especially with that enduring making condition that enables you to grab that one when you need it. Almost killing a companion? Remove a threat, play Bold men and Grim and finish it off.

:uh-huh: Discard the companion you dislike: Fierce in despair, Beauty is fading

8-) Overwhelming the Ringbearer by swarming: Goblin Runner,...

\:D/ Discard Anduril/Aiglos: Stricken Dumb, Grond, Hammer of the underworld

If it is standard format though... only fierce in despair would even be legal.

Sting of Shelob would be hard to set up but would get the job done.
Breached would probably be your best bet though, direct, cheap, and not too hard to set up.
Unmistakable Omen might be good too, if you're using [Orc] orcs.

Unmistakable Omen wouldn't really work because the FP player can choose who they want to die (probably not going to be Aragorn/Elendil/Gil-Galad).

What decktypes are you playing against? Maybe it can be tackled that way.

Well, i prefer an idea for a deck that just kill all copanions...hehehe. The kind of strategy to get rid of this annoying companions depends much on what shadow are you playing. For example unseen foe works very well in gollum decks (punish all these nasty high strenght companions) but you will not splash gollums and unseen foe in any deck just to get rid of them cause that can pretty much ruin your main shadow strategy.

When i made a shadow i always think in some objective for them. Sometimes they just slow down my opponent to let me run with freeps (and gives them great Demon of Might" punishment if they double). Other times the shadow is the main star so i have to focus more in problems like get rid of this key companions. I found that aiming exerts and wounds without depending on winning skirmishes is a nice way to start.

Maybe i could develop more the idea and get a little more in the specific issue of this thread when i got some time.
