Breached would probably be your best bet though, direct, cheap, and not too hard to set up.

Note that the FP player chooses the companion, not you.

Ulaire Enquea, Dark Threat could be a huge hit to multiple companion decks

yeah, it can be done. A lot of drawing cards, and only nazguls in the deck....hmmm, maybe it can be done, as a such of anti-deck.

Weary can take down their health if they already need to exert a lot (Aragorn's Bow, etc.), then you might be able to pull off a direct wound kill. Not really reliable, and not that you're going to want to play [Isengard] trackers any way, but it's all I can think of.

I found that [Men] archery pretty much reduces all companions to an even level. Even if they're big and tough, get a few wounds on them and pow. Yeah, it requires an extra 2 arrows to fell Thorongil, but Rapid Reload can take care of that the turn he's played.

And yeah, pretty much the other best strategy is with Shelob, just ignore him. It works, even if he doesn't die.

I like Corsairs for Fierce In Despair. Even though Gorn will probably kill the minion he's put up against, with a few Corsair Maruader and/or Wind that Sped Ships it's easy enough to keep two minions alive for FiD. As for twilight... Corsair War Galley. 'Nuff said. It'd be harder against Gil-Galad, who could discard Aiglos to wound each minion, but hey, at least that offs Aiglos....

Maybe you guys can find a bard and have your story of heroic Balrog proximity put into verse.
