Madness from Fangorn pairs up with Mordor Madness
« on: July 07, 2009, 12:23:45 AM »
The Fellowship is about the ents. Try to get as many as you can and wait what will happen. Start Merry and Pippin, ditch merry in regroup, take pippin back and then discard him, so he won't take up the nine companion spot while laying in the dead pile. I'll maybe cut an extra copy of the 2 stronger ents, so I can add maybe Turn of the Tide, Crack into Rumble or Gandalf's Staff. Facing a lot of possessiondecks this could be wise ;)

The shadow has one focus: kill with Desert Lord. Alone he is annoying, with his toys he is scary. With Seasoned Leader and a Mumak he is strength 20 fierce and has dealt 3 wounds in archery already. Few tricks there as well, I like it...

What is your main goal for the 10 slots you have for Pipeweed? Twilight reduction to counter ents, cycling for your Shadow...? Desert Lord is awesome! :)

Pipeweed does the filtering indeed, gives early access to cards I need. With Gandal's pipe it also enables me to remove burdens. I might change Gaffer's pipe into Frodo's pipe but then the only Gandalf I can play is Friend of the Shirefolk. I need the extra pipe not so much for twilight reduction, since I will make plenty twilight, but for the burden control. Additional thoughts are more than welcome!

It's a nice deck. I've always thought of Ents as great beginner companions, but they have really evolved into their own.

I don't understand why you are playing Gandalf, Defender of the West. I really like Gandalf, The Grey Pilgrim to get that extra card and cycle a little bit.

Don't you think 34 cards is a little big for this deck? I agree that the pipeweed action is superfluous and it is almost unnecessary. Let's say you drop those ten cards. Maybe replace one with Ottar, Man of Laketown. He'll help with cycling just as much and is easy to find in your deck with A Wizard is Never Late. A few copies of Enraged and another two copies of Merry, Impatient Hobbit would be nice to round out your free people nicely.

I like your minions. I would consider dropping one or two copies of Southron Bandit and Southron Captain to even everything out.

I welcome your comments, but next to drawing cards, the pipeweeds do have another function as well, they remove burdens like crazy. Each pipeweed is a potential 2 burdenremover, that is nice, you have to admit.
And I will consider the other Gandalf, allthough I love strong companions.

Oh, I forgot that Gandalf is strength 9 while you can spot three companions of the same culture, not cannot.

That said, I think you have plenty of strong companions with the Ents and Gandalf, the Grey Wizard is one of the best cards for cycling a deck.

If you are concerned about burden removal--you are using the resistance-12 Frodo--maybe throw in a Sam, Son of Hamfast for the burden removal.

Also, I didn't see any conditions in your deck--would you consider playing Treebeard, Earthborn and including 4 copies of him so that you can keep bringing the unbound Hobbits back?
