What would you like to see here?
« on: May 03, 2008, 06:14:32 AM »
A few things off the top of my head:

Obviously, the most important thing is a community of LotR players.

After that, here are a few starting points:
  • A better name! Lord of the Rings Trading Card Game Database.... Forums! is a mouthful. Even LotRTCGDB Forums is too much. Any ideas?
  • A more suitable theme than the default blue
  • Better smileys, including LotR icons
  • Seamless integration into the LotR TCG DB (true autolink)
  • A resources area with information on useful programs and downloads (deck editors, etc.)

I found and added a LOTR theme (check your profile to choose it), but it's kinda meh. I'll play around with it.

  • Better smileys, including LotR icons

Nothing doing for the smileys yet, but fortunately I had thought to save all the LOTR culture icons a while back. I've added them here.

More to come! ;D

Hobbit_Pizza, you still want to design a good CSS stylesheet?

Odd that your avatar is the same as mine, Dain. You may want to change it. ;)

and Conor offered something and maybe you're willing to look into it Kralik? This is what he wrote:

If anyone is inclined to rebuild the forum at another location, I have database dumps in CSV and SQL formats that I can provide for this purpose.

Sure I can work on a stylesheet. I need a copy of the overall header/footer and the css file for the current template. Same for the generic LOTR template you mentioned. I'll look at them and see what I can modify.

BTW.....THANKS FOR THE FORUM!!!  ;)

How about something from the Lord of the Rings about a final sanctuary for displaced peoples, like the Last Homely House!  ;D

  • A more suitable theme than the default blue
It just doesn't look the same without Cobra's colours!

  • Seamless integration into the LotR TCG DB (true autolink)
Like CC used to be! Awesome!

Looks good!

GE, that would be awesome! I could definitely look into that, though most likely any posts on this particular forum would be lost. Well worth it! Is Conor giving up on fixing CC then?

the entire mail went like this:

Please forward this to the list of people who've been exchanging emails about the Cobra Cards forum.

Yes, the forum is down for good.  As you know, there have been constant stability issues with the database, which I simply don't have time to deal with anymore.  Additionally, there have been recent problems with the site suddenly trying to hog all the resources on its server, which are unexplained but possibly the result of hacker attacks.  This resulted in the site being suspended, and I'm not prepared to put in the huge amounts of time, effort, research, and perhaps money that would be necessary to solve all these problems.

If anyone is inclined to rebuild the forum at another location, I have database dumps in CSV and SQL formats that I can provide for this purpose.

So yeah, he gave up on them....

When was that email sent? Anyway, if you could PM me Cobra's contact info, I'll see what I can do.

I think that this is the route we should go.

But until then, we need an MtG section. Absolutely imperatively MUST HAVE an MtG section. I could help mod it if F_M doesn't come back.

(And maybe a better UI).

(SoP, here's a start with the gold! BTW, can we get the delay back to 15 minutes like the old CC?)

Dumps? In other words, database backup?

Can that be imported into SMF? What kind of SQL forum was he running?

well if he can restore it we really don't need anything...

Update!

First, I changed the time setting for gold to 0.25 hours. See if that works for you.

More importantly, Conor has responded! I will try and set up a phpBB2 forum with the old CC data. Cross your fingers...
It may take a while, so I'll be putting it at an alternate URL on this server while testing it until it could be moved to /forums.
It would be much more trouble than it's worth to try to convert it to SMF, but I may be able to upgrade to phpBB3. We'll see. He also has the old autolink extension in there, so I may be able to adapt it for use with the DB. Maybe even have the same ol' theme! :)
