Musicians, UNITE!
« on: October 04, 2009, 09:26:21 PM »
Well, so I'm gleaning that there's at least a few fellow musicians on the boards. What kinda instruments do you play? Do you write any music? Stuff like that. Here's the place to talk music.

So I play guitar and piano. I got like, this ancient piano that's beautifully crafted that we've had in our house since I was like 5. Then I own my own guitars, I got an Epiphone SG which is just kinda a cheap electric that I bought because I wanted one I could fiddle around with a little but didn't want to invest money in anything but an acoustic. I have an Epiphone AJ-500M Masterbilt for my acoustic, its really cool, I like it a lot. Beautifully crafted, awesome sound, just amazing. I really want to get this Seagull too, IDK, I really like the Seagull sound, its very unique, cool, and sounds like Green Day. ;)

I also have a 1976 Fender Musicmaster 3/4 Bass that I picked up off a friend for like $50. Its actually in really good condition, I got it cleaned up and stuff like that and learned that its worth $600-700.

So yeah. I also write guitar music. I do a lot with suspended chords. Suspended chords blend beautifully with major and minor chords and seem to complete the music. I also wrote some basic fingerpicking stuff and some riffs and etc.

That's a pretty nice bass. You should check out harmonycentral.com for any information on an instrument or amplifier before you buy.

I have a lot of stuff of my own, and access to one of the best collector's instruments and amplifiers, so I am very blessed in that category.

I love repairing instruments and have really learned a lot under a master's tutelage. If you ever had any questions, feel free to ask.

I play a lot of electric guitar tunes on acoustic guitar to strengthen my fingers and speed up my playing. My biggest recommendation is to buy a metronome and play slow...slow...slow. You will be able to play it faster if you learn it slow.

I used to play bass but haven't really played much recently. I just pulled out my Warwick 4 String Thumb bass (bolt-on) and started dabbling again. John Entwistle is one of my musical heroes, and so I have spent a lot of time learning to play like him.

I have spent a lot of time trying to memorize the fretboards of a guitar as opposed to just counting up or down from the key areas...but part of that has been learning scales again. It really does take 3 months to really memorize a scale well, and you can really only get three scales per 3 months (I am talking like D7sus4, etc).

It's worth saying that I don't play with anyone and haven't been in a band since I was much younger (and more delusional). But my best friend is one of the best guitar players I have met (I have consorted with professionals) and we get together and play as often as possible. I will just play bass and let him do what he wants. My chops are nice but his licks melt panties.

Anyways, stuff I am playing...I don't know...whatever I kind of feel like. "The Divided Sky" by Phish is pretty fun, and sounds great on my acoustic rig.

All I do is take piano, but I do have a Lotr piano music book and play most of my music from it. \:D/

Yeah, I have a lot of musical theory from my formal piano training but I haven't really applied that much to guitar, I pretty much just learned to play from tabs (shame, shame, I know). I'm learning to blend intervals and play various different chords.

I can play power chords, arpeggios, bar chords and open chords. I think the chord that probably comes up the most in my writing, though, is Dsus2. My latest concoction has a little bit of melodic noteplay and a lot of arpeggios and chords. Cadd3 is a fun one. :) But yeah, I probably need to start learning scales.

BTW...I'm kinda an acoustic guitar supremacist. I have one real guitar and a couple that plug in. ;)

Buy a Dean Markley Instant Mount pickup. You'll be able to plug any acoustic guitar into an amp (SWR Strawberry Blonde is a really sweet acoustic amp) and jingle away!

I don't know what my favorite guitar chord is...there are too many.

I've played trombone for 3-4 years now. Not very good yet, but it's coming. I've never taken any piano/music theory lessons of any kind, so obviously I don't really write music.

Grew up learning piano on my parents Yamaha baby grand.  Took lessons for about 8 years.  Sadly they just sold the piano since they're downsizing to a condo.

Been playing the piano for 12 years. Lord of the rings and sonic are imso some of my favorite to play. Now if only I could afford a decent piano...
