Whistling Death
« on: October 15, 2009, 07:52:49 AM »
Off topic: I use suffered much loss in an evil men deck built around whistling death

I have an Austrian deck where I run Suffered Much Loss, Goaded to War, The Mouth of Sauron Messenger of Mordor and Whistling Death.  The first Mouth gets a Pavise, Countless Companies, and two Goaded to War.  The second Mouth replays the Pavise from Countless Companies and grabs the other two Goaded to War.

I get +4 twilight at every site, which is nice for those Whistling Deaths and big, expensive minions  like Horde of Harad and Castamir of Umbar, Corsair Vandal.  =P

Very nice.  Whistling Death is a card that can put some heavy fear on the FP player during the assignment phase.  Especially if you used rapid reload in previous turns to make certain that all their companions are a minimum of 2 vitality away from death.

Forgive me if I am missing something, but wouldn't that combination work in Standard?

no, in standard demoralized is X-ed...for obvious reasons this time, demoralized and Rapid reload, entire fellowship exhausted for like 0. Demoralized and possession orcs was already a bit hard to chew...so yeah, I guess I can life with demoralized gone.

I add a couple of enraged southron aswell. His ambush can come in handy at the right time.

Yeah, I run those in my deck, too.  It's basically Castamir, Horde of Harad, Enraged Southron, and The Mouth of Sauron.  In fact, I can't even come up with any other minions that are in there; it may just be 4 each of those, though that doesn't seem right, as two of 'em are unique...

If only I weren't so lazy, I'd consider grabbing the deck and figuring out just what the heck I have in it.  =P

Southron Bandit and Mumakil of the Harad are both pretty nice at adding twilight. Suzerain of Harad, although then you have to worry about having initiative.

Too bad there isn't a card like Invading Haradrim that added twilight per-threat.

Too bad none of these will work with whistling death.

Invading Haradrim is awesome! I didn't even know he existed.

Southron Bandit will. He's a pretty nice splash card in any deck (I personally wouldn't splash him). But you certainly could!

Actually I meant you can't use whistling death in skirmishes involving raider minions.. Only The new evil men minions..

So I would rather stick to New evil men minions so you don't risk drawing whistling death and not being able to play it.

Invading Haradrim is waaaay better at adding twilight

I definitely prefer Enraged Southron to Invading Haradrim in my deck.  The problem with Invading Haradrim is that it's not reliable -- I have no way of adding burdens or reducing resistance in my deck, so I'm basically relying on my opponent bidding for Invading Haradrim to be at all useful.  For only one twilight more, I get a minion that's far more likely to get a skirmish wound (Strength 12 vs. strength 8), and ALWAYS adds 3 twilight (unless he's just not assigned by the FP player, in which case I'm happy anyway  =P).

Yeah, he makes the move limit +1, but I use all big, high-cost minions in my deck because I get the +4 twilight at every site.  It's unlikely that my opponent will want to triple-move against me, though if I think he's capable of it, I'll just opt not to play the Enraged Southron.  I basically make it a point to play Enraged Southron when I know I can get a stop anyway.  For 4 twilight, I get a 12-strength minion that pays for the first half of his own Whistling Death!
