Rise of the Phoenix
« on: October 29, 2009, 02:13:27 PM »
I've been having Magic DC ideas, and without anywhere good to post them for review... Of course, only 2 people look at this board (if that) but I wanted to propose this card as exploring different aspects of the existing colour pie.

Now (R) doesn't get reanimation effects - it's too free-spirited to think about protection and a long-term plan. But, it does with the flavour of a Phoenix, which keeps coming back (like Magma Phoenix, for example).

But I was thinking and the phoenix also has aspects of purity and purifying light, which falls under (W) a little bit more than (R). Add to the fact that (W) does get resurrection, led me to think up these ideas. Tell me which you think is better!

1) Rise of the Phoenix [3](R)(W)
Sorcery U
Return target creature in your graveyard to the battlefield under your control. It gains haste until end of turn.

2) Rise of the Phoenix [3](R)(W)
Enchantment - Aura R
Enchant creature card in your graveyard
Return enchanted creature to the battlefield under your control.
When ~ leaves play or enchanted creature goes to your graveyard, ~ deals 3 damage to each creature and each player.

Interesting, I like the idea of the Phoenix exploding in a deadly ball of flame at the end of the turn

Considering Ressurrection's cost, the first one would be fine at 2(R)(W). The second one is a little messy, I think the first one is better.

Yeah the first one is a lot more simple, I agree with FM, although Jordy is right the magam explosion is a nice touch.

(And make that 3 people!)

Thanks guys! I was trying to think about how to word the explosion on the sorcery version, and wasn't sure how to make it work.

Its a good card but a little costly, although it does have potential massive power, playing a darksteel colossus or something with this is a bit mint. Its useful in certain circumstances but it doesnt really have a white feel about it, id go mono red.

That's one of the reasons the Colossus never hits the graveyard! I know what you mean about the colours, but I think you still need (W) for reanimation... Not sure, maybe [2](R)(R)(W)?

Magma phoenix isnt white. But that cost above would suit me better.
