How to beat ents in movie block?
« on: October 31, 2009, 08:54:10 AM »
Ok... what card can you put in your deck that will help against ents knowing that possessions are going to be discarded by Roll of Thunder and that conditions are going to be discarded as well?

Ulaire Enquea, Lieutenant of Morgul can be ok I guess... but Terrible and Evil may be there as well.

He-he, is that pointed to me, no? I can tell you that there is a way for sure. Not sure if I want to tell you, since I really like my Ent deck, but...

4 Southron Veterans
4 Desert Lord
2 Southron Troop
2 Southron Commander
2 Fierce in Despair
4 War Towers
4 Mumak
4 Mumak Chieftain
4 Seasoned Leader
2 High Vantage
4 Red Wrath

That should do the trick. Have fun...

Greed if it won't be discarded during the maneuver phase.

Greed is good but I think it will. Albert  Dreary is there most of the time.

I'm not looking for an entire shadow to beat ents, but some few cards I could add in. Maybe 1 The Number must be few could be interesting even if it last only a turn.

Mostly all culture can deal with them. My southron deck runs Veterans + Seasoned and minions that can go big, Nazgul have Enquea + ring, etc... cards of the "for each over X" type helps a lot like War Towers, that sauron event that exerts (or wound) people or that easterling that puts 1 burdens for each companion over 5.

Greed usually doesnt help because of Albert, but many copies can be an option (specially if you have some ally hate at the deck).

Another effective way to beat ents is playing some big fierce minions to keep their double unlikely. Fierce big Nazguls, Castamit + halberd and all that kind of stuff may help. And you can alwyas benefit from sites 7 from ROTK.

Well, With Southrons i use Southrons Veterans + Seasoned Leader, but any big minion + Seasoned will chake some trees. Mumak Chiefitain + Mumak (or Mumakil) + Seasoned kill some ents if you dont run across Roll of Thunder that turn. I usually Aim gandy With Desert Lord to Keep Terrible and Evil at bay, some other times i exert Treebeard to force st 10 or less companions to fight. But Southrons have tons of options: Southron Thief + War Towers, Southron Commander, Southron Archer Legion, far Harad Mercenaries, etc. Easterlings have Easterling Pillager and New Fear. Corsairs have Castamir and his toys or Corsair Brute + Red Wrath. Raider Culture have lots of options like War Towers, Red Wrath and such...

With Dunland i just try to control 2 sites...if i suceed then i kill them all  8-)

With Nazgul tou have Enquea and that nice card that wound gandy twice (yeah i put it on Nazgul decks that haves a lot of conditions like Blade Tip and Black Breath to finish the nice old man before he mess up my suport area). Ulaire Cantea, Faster Than Winds is another high recomendable option.

If you run Isen swarm you probably will get screwed if you play the low st guys. The big ones can still do some damage, like Orc Overseer or isengard Mechanichs.

Sauron haves that 2 eventsA Host Avails Little and All Thought Bent on It... Other than that you have... Sauron (!!!) that can always make some noise. Besigers have Gorgoroth Swarm, trolls and minions that gets high st (the problem is that gandy again can screw their support area). The Number Must Be Few is quite likely to get discarded by gandy so i wouldn't recommend it.

With Uruk-hais the best option is to play one or two big uruks and make them fierce or damage + (sack of the shire, lurtz battle cry, etc.)

If you play Ninja Gollum or any other heavy condition based you can just start to cry...

Like i said before one good way to stop them (even if not killing them all) is to play some minions that win skirmishes and stay at table, preference if they are fierce or damage + (or both).

The only Splash minions i know that may work are Enquea, far Harad Mercenaries and Southron Commander. i usually go with Enquea.

If you play swarm, how can you win? I guess a The Number must be few played at the right moment (even if it gets discarded) can do it if you can move fast with your fellowship.

Don't forget that The Number Must Be Few modifies the move limit permanently for a turn, even if it is discarded. I never noticed that the card has no spotting requirement... may have to try it a bit.

I agree that corruption works well vs Ents.

When you about it, if the only shadow card you play in a turn is The Number must be few, your opponent must stop and cannot use Deep in thought to discard it. That means next turn, the move limit is still -1, even if he plays Grown suddenly tall or whatever. That can make a huge difference.

Good call. Play a couple and stop Radagast. ;)

Every time I play vs. Ents I think, "Ah, if only I was using my Easterling deck!" They are brutal with the twilight (and corruption possibilities as well).
