D&D
« on: June 20, 2008, 03:18:49 AM »
I recently started my first RPG game ever, playing a greyhawk campaign of Dungeons and Dragons 3.5

Im having immense fun with my cleric, and the combat using minatures is very entertaining.

Does anyone else play?

Dungeon Master for the past 7 years. ;)
Too bad my playgroup is scattered and we hardly ever play more than once each 6 months, but hey, they're enjoying themselves!
Oh, yeah, pick Bull's Strength, Divine Favor, Bless, some Inflict spells (assuming your channeling ability is for Cure spells, otherwise go the other way around), possibly the Strength domain if you have access to it (or War for some Bonus Feats), put a lot or Ranks in Concentration and Heal, and you're good to go. If you do not have War domain, Weapon Focus and wielding a Heavy Flail go a long way for a Cleric, specially since it allows you to hold a Shield.
Power Attack and Cleave are great Feats, as well.

I've also been dungeon master many times, but I have to say that I've never liked the d20 system very much. I much prefer Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay which is simply an awesome RPG, as is the new Dark Heresy, with amazingly simple gameplay.

I played when it was still AD&D :D ... anybody remember this? When I was 14/15 yrs old

Really enjoyed it, we had lots of fun. It's addictive when you play with real cool people.

A&D was fun, too, with the varying level-up exp needs (serisouly, Wizards tend to get ridiculous very easily now), but I like the new system better with feats separated from skills, and not having the THAC0 system anymore. But the monster manual pictures from AD&D were waaaay cooler, although with not such great art.

I've played for a little bit of a 3.5 epic-er campaign, last semester. Pretty fun. I'll be jumping into a more roleplay-heavy campaign in 4th Edition next semester, and it truly looks promising.

On that note...does anyone read Order of the Stick, Darths and Droids, or The DM of the Rings? All of them are absolutely hilarious webcomics about D&D in some way or another. (Note, there's some PG-13ish content in DM of the Rings-somewhat scattered-and definitely in Order of the Stick.)

Hey FM thats cool.

I picked the strength and sun domains so i have bulls strength, and as part of my level 1 spells everyday i take blessed divine favour and protection from evil usually so pretty close to your suggestions! I have loads of ranks in concentration for defensive casting a few in heal and the rest in knowledge religion for turning combined with my sun domain. I have weapon focus heavy mace.

Im playing a jack of all trades cleric which is very fun. I do well at healing, ive taken augmented healing as a feat, but i also (thanks to high hit point rolls) have joint top HP with a barbarian lol and the 2nd best AC class in the party so im also kind of a tank with lovely irritating spells :D

Cool! Gotta love Cleric tanks! I played one myself, although I was evil-aligned.

I played as an Elf (I know...the irony! :P) for a little while back during the AD&D days. Took down a gelatinous cube all by my lonesome at the height of my glory, then eventually fell to a wounded orc I got too close to as it got a lucky roll to slash me dead with its dying breath. Then my cousin (who I played with) moved away and I never really got into it again.
Best regards,
Dáin

Wow, now that's an interesting combo...

I'll be playing a human rogue in that campaign next semester, it should be quite a bit of fun.

Get a bunch of ranks in Tumble, great for AC. Also, try to get a superhuman dexterity ASAP to get Quicker Than the Eye as a Feat, amazing. For 1st-level feats, you get 2 for being a human, so I'd start off with Improved Initiative and possible Point-Blank Shot if you plan to fight from a distance (which is usually advisable early on).

This is gonna be 4e, so I think the feats changed. Although I hear that rogues got to be an awesome class in the new edition. Plenty of damage-dealing, nice powers to push other guys around, that fun stuff. I'll be a Trickster Rogue, I think, that's the more wily variant that has neat tricks up its sleeve.

Even the guys FROM WotC are not entirely happy with it.
