U/B Control/Disruption (LRW)
« on: June 21, 2008, 09:11:38 AM »
I was thinking of not posting this, b/c then TJ might steal it and pummel me with it, but I'll post it under the disclaimer that I don't want anyone else using this deck.

There.

Okay, I've always had problems with building controls, but I think I have an idea that'll work.

23 lands

Secluded Glen x 4
Reflecting Pool x 4
Sunken Ruins x 4
Mutavault x 2
Swamp x 5
Island x 4

Thieving Sprite x 2
Oona's Prowler x 4
Oona's Blackguard x 4
Spellstutter Sprite x 4

Mind Shatter x 2
Thoughtseize x 4
Pulling Teeth x 4
Noggin Whack x 2
Faerie Trickery x 4
Cryptic Command x 3
Dream Salvage x 2

Liliana Vess x 2

Basically, the strategy is to empty your opponent's hand as fast as possible. Then, since they can only draw 1 card per turn, it gets countered via one of 11 counterspells. By that time, you should be in control of the game and can simply pummel with your Oona's Prowlers (hopefully with +1/+1 counters on them).

I NEED HELP! No removal...what the heck am I thinking? But seriously, how do I make disruption work and still have room for stuff?

I have a lot of problems with a control deck playing less than 24 lands, you NEED to hit a land drop each turn AT LEAST until turns 5-6 or so.
For starters, I think Bitterblossom should not be missing, it's THAT awesome. Then, you should either play a full set of Mutavaults or none at all, they're that good. I'd consider playing one more Noggin' Whack, perhaps only one single Liliana Vess, playing a full set of Bitterblossom, possibly 3-4 Mistbind Clique (could be cut down to 2, perhaps adding a singleton Oona as finisher), and probably some Profane Commands.
However, for Lorwyn Block control, you should take a look at the old UB Mannequin lists, give or take a few things.

ACH! I hate Mannequin. No way. I'm trying to play disruption, mostly.

So...cut advice? Or are you recommending a 70 card deck? ;)

I'd cut Thieving Sprite, some Reflecting Pools (too dangerous in large amounts), Dream Salvage, 1 Mind Shatter andiliana Vess, for starter.

I will officially hate you if you play Mannequin.
On another note, this deck pummeled a Manequin deck. Cuz he got mana screwed, he won the next 2 out of the 3 games. :(

I've tweaked it, but since its now working considerably well, I won't give you any more info.
