typically end-of-the-year foil observations
« on: December 31, 2009, 03:44:17 AM »
Hi there!
This may be a rather pointless question to most people, but...

did you notice that the foils from the movie block vary a little bit from set to set?

IMHO, the FotR foils are the most brilliant foils of all and the BoHD foils are VERY saturated.

Mind you, I do not prefer one to the other. I just think that they are different, but look magnificent compared to WotR foils. Those were a real let-down to me when I saw. SH and BR foils are the worst, BL foils were sort of a return to form.

About Hunters foils: Some are more foiled than others. For example, at some point I had three Lemenya RFs and they all had different degrees of being foiled. On one you just saw a couple of slivers of foil in the picture, the most foiled one was practically foiled all over.

RoS and T&D RFs seem to me to be very saturated again, but they lack to "depth" the BoHD foils have. The Masterworks foils on the other hand are absolutely gorgeous throughout Hunters Block.

If you want to kill time until midnight, feel free to post below.

All the best to all for the new year.

I've noticed game text boxes seem to have various degrees of foilyness. IIRC this was missing in Reflections... Reflections was a bit disappointing with some of the foil work looking like cutouts (e.g. Isildur BoH). Slippery As Fishes though looks surprisingly good.

What do you think of the ones from Ages End? Not sure how to put this as a compliment, but the foiling on Gollum TG almost looks greasy--somehow the background hues show through without a blinding effect. I wish more cards were like it.

Green Hill Country... I can almost read by. ;D

Wonder if some of it has to do with foils being curled/uncurled. Can't speak for Hunters, but my copies of Nertea DH have greater amounts of background foil showing through after I got the cards flat again (originally a pencil could be slid underneath them). The default version seems to have very little foil--the background blade, the edges of the foreground blade, and the horse's armor.

Not the first time I've heard good stuff about BoHD foils.
