Text-based Games
« on: June 22, 2008, 10:14:22 PM »
I noticed in the TPBM game that a couple of people mentioned playing Roguelikes such as Moria and Angband. I myself used to play NetHack for a while, but then discovered ADOM and played it for many years. Has anyone else played this awesome game? Perhaps the quintessential mark of geekiness to enjoy text-based games. I also used to be quite addicted to MUDs, the best one being Carrion Fields. I find that text-based games free the imagination to do the creative work, comparative to the difference between reading and watching a video. How about the rest of y'all?

Used to play OGame. Not anymore. 'Twas good while it lasted.

By text-based, thought you meant something like Zork.

You ever tried this one?

Ah, yes. You can't beat the classics. ;) I have played Zork.

MUD's are like Zork, but multiplayer. Or, another way of looking at it, like WoW, but text-based. Usually with fantasy themes.

I found a really awesome rouguelike for my PalmPilot (before it crashed) called "ULarn." Anyone know if there's a way to get ahold of ULarn for regular computers?
Forget it. I'm not arguing with the computer anymore to try to get the sig I want....

Down the bottom are some executables.

You roguelike fans, AD and Ulmo, ought to give ADOM a shot. It's great.

I did hear good things about ADOM. Another good game was Omega. It had a sense of humour that I liked.
