Time for a new league?
« on: January 23, 2010, 08:36:53 PM »
FoTR league has died off a bit. Last game was played 6 days ago.

I haven't been on GCCG for a while, mostly because i had trouble finding a FOTR game, and if i did my opponents didn't always want it to be a league game (even though i am an easy beat).

So i was wondering if the interest is still there for a league? Should we move on and start a new one?

If we start a new league what format should it be? My vote would be for TTT as it seems to be a logical progression.

If we move on should we still run FoTR league or stop it? If noone is playing anymore, perhaps it is time to declare the league over, and congratualte Ringbearer on winning this league.

Any thoughts? What do you think TheJord, are you willing to run another league?

New league sounds good to me. TTT being the next logical step.

I like TS more than TTT, cus' TTT hasn't so many cool strategies like FotR Block.

How about we set up a league team. I could be the first step towards a PC as well (the other step being marketing)? The members of the league team will compile the results, and post the scoreboards/tables on the forum.

In this way, we can have multiple leagues at the same time. Plus, we still can get a PC officially started!

TS >>>>>> TTT
I prefer TT over TS because I have 5+ TT decks and 0 TS deck.

FOTR, TTT, TS, ROTK, Standard, Expanded, War of the Ring, Open, Movie, etc

So many formats - its hard to know what format i should put my efforts into. From my perspective, a league helps me know what format to design decks for and where i am most likely to get a game.

I could play movie as it seems to be popular - but i am a little behind on deck design there - and the number of cards available is a little overwhelming. Prior to using GCCG, I have only played Open format with friends (but used alot of rules incorrectly) and have now played FoTR block on GCCG.

Can anyone let me know what formats are commonly played on GCCG other than FOTR and movie block. Will i get a game if i design TTT or TS decks?

yeah, looking forward to a new league..

The league was fun because it kindled competition in a format that wasn't very often played on GCCG. But as the league grew, it became harder to manage and the competition wasn't always there.

I am certainly thankful that the league got people playing earlier blocks, but at this point do you need another league to be competitive and try out other formats?

The league only got people playing an earlier block.. not blocks. Not that I would want to run it, but if there was another league for TTT block or even Towers Standard it again would kindle some more competition in unpopular blocks.

At the moment 90% of players on gccg only want to ever play FOTR or movie with the occasional game of standard. A new league might change this and I think would be good.

I liked the league because it appeared to generate interest amongst the players. It gave new and returning players a chance to get into, or back into the game. It got players interested in the same format.

From my perspective, I was hoping that we would have moved to TT, because it would have given me the opportunity to see how those cards worked together. This would have made me more confident to eventually move on to movie block (which by all accounts is the most popular format). Prior to playing on GCCG, i got back into LOTR around Bloodlines (after quitting at ROTEL), and did this isolated from experienced players. My playing group played several key rules incorrectly, and i only really learned to play correctly as a result of the league.

Out of interest - how is GCCG going at the moment. Has it slowed down without the league?
