Doubts about promo cards
« on: January 24, 2010, 07:41:07 AM »
Hi everyone,

Looking through the promos I have noticed some that were only produced in promo form. Those are marked as 0D, SPD and 0W. My first question is: do all of them exist as physical cards or are they from the online game?
My second question is that, if I print them to play with my friends, which ones can be played in a normal game? Some versions of the characters (the ones in 0D) are really strong and unbalanced. Finally, regarding menace and triumph, how do those keywords work? Triumph is really strong, and I don't know if they can be played in a normal game.

Thank you very much,

ROBERTO

triumph and menace were only used in LOTRO, the online game from decipher, all 0W cards are LOTRO only, 0D16-24 are LOTRO only, 0D1-8 are physical cards

Thanks, legolas.
Anyway, how do menace and triumph work? I would like to try the 0W cards in the physical game (the 0D cards not, because they are too powerful). Thanks again,

ROBERTO

Triumph is somehow related to the number of skirmish events played in a skirmish involving that character, not sure how...
Menace is related to the amount of cumulative twilight your opponent puts into the twilight pool, not sure how...

Last I heard the exact formulas haven't been revealed. The LOTRO help system has this:

Menace

Menace is an online-only mechanic. Every shadow phase, there is a chance that Menace will activate. This chance is zero at the beginning of the game, but increases each time that the Free Peoples player adds twilight to the twilght pool. The amount of twilight the Free Peoples player adds to the pool is tracked throughout the game, and the more twilight they add, the larger the chance of that Menace will activate, until it is automatic. The chance of Menace activating increases only when the Free Peoples player adds twilight to the pool; it is not affected by any twilight that the Shadow player may add. The chance of Menace activating is tracked separately for each player in a game.

When Menace activates, the Shadow player may play any Menace minions still in their draw deck. When they are played from the draw deck, the Menace abilities on these minions may be used. These abilities may not be used when the minion is played normally from hand.

Menace can only activate at the start of the Shadow phase, in which case your draw deck will highlight, and can be selected to play any Menace minions it contains.

Triumph

Triumph is an online-only mechanic. Some Free Peoples characters have a Triumph keyword on them. For each skirmish event played by the Free Peoples player during a skirmish involving a character bearing the Triumph keyword, the chance of Triumph triggering for that character increases, until it is automatic. If it triggers, the character will hint during the phase in which its Triumph ability can be used, and it may be selected normally to use its ability.

For example, Aragorn, The Dunadan, bears the game text "Triumph: At the start of the maneuver phase, you may wound a minion." Each maneuver phase the game will compare a random number against the chance that Triumph may activate, and if the check is passed, Aragorn will hint and his Triumph ability can be used. If the check does not pass, he will not hint, and his Triumph ability cannot be used that phase.

There are more D cards not listed in the database, at least up to 0D14 that are physical cards. However, I dunno if they're legal.

Yeah, looks like P62 - 67 were from the LOTR Online TCG leagues. I have several of them irl, but never figured they were legal to play. I would like to play them, especially in Fship block!

Kralik and I have an agreement that those particular promos (and every promo through The Binding Ring (P)) are Movie Legal when we play on GCCG.

Of course, neither of us have actually used them yet...
