Tournaments @ GenCon Indy
« on: January 25, 2010, 10:29:50 AM »
I don't mean to spam up the boards, but I really need survey responses as quickly as I can get them so I can register events before the 29th.

I'm looking to input for tournaments to be run at GenCon Indy - please take my survey! (link)

GenCon Indy takes place August 5-8th 2010 in Indianapolis IN, USA - visit their website (link) for more info or to register!

A 4-day pass during pre-registration (opens 1/24/10 at 12pm EST, runs through June 19th) is $68, or a One-Day pass is $38.

I did the survey, but won't be going to GenCon Indy. I live across the world, and being a 18 year old, the cost of plane tickets is just too much for me. But I fully support this event though! :D

dang...

I appreciate the input Kenddrick, I reallly do, but I guess I should have specified that I really only wanted opinions from those who were likely to attend the Con, as they're the ones I'm catering to.

Thanks anyway bud.

At any rate I think I know what events I'll be running anyway:

Fellowship Block Constructed (R-list: Forces of Mordor)
Movie Block Constructed (Expanded Format R-list applies)
Fellowship Block Draft (increased fee to cover packs)

Other Possible Events:
Standard Constructed (Sets 7-19, X- and R-Lists apply)
Tower Block Draft (increased fee to cover packs)
Reflections Draft (hefty entrance fee to cover the cost of packs)

Events will take place on Friday and Saturday, between 11am and 7pm.
Prizes will include sealed product (no, there won't be any RoS or Hunters or T&D), rares, and promos.

Is anybody even planning on going to GenCon?? I'm not going to buy my ticket and reserve a hotel room and go through all this * if nobody is going to go, so you better speak up if you're going.

ROLL CALL!

Oh man, I'm hoping to go to one Con this year, but don't know if it will be GenCon...

But playing LOTR would be a big draw for me.

I'll be at GenCon, unless I die between now and then.

@ Elgar - excellent!!

@ anyone who might be attending GenCon - here are my current thoughts on which tourneys to run:

I could do a FotR Draft with one pack each FotR, MoM, RotEL, and FotR Draft Pack
           - This would cost me in the range of $100 and I would have to charge $5/player (+$2 for GenCon), prize support to consist of FotR, MoM, and RotEL packs

I could do a TTT Anthology Sealed tournament
           - I would probably order enough of these for 10 people, and would again cost in the range of $100; I would have to charge $10 per player (+$2 for GenCon), but each player gets more cards for their money. No prize support.

FotR Block Constructed and Movie Block Constructed
           - If I do any draft tournaments, entry fee for this is $3 (2 for gencon, 1 for me) to help cover costs of leftover draft materials that go for prizes for these tournaments.

Reflections Draft (FotR DP, Reflections, RotK, MD)
           - This would be a pricey event, simply due to the Reflections - probably $10 on top of GenCon's $2

I won't be able to get any Hunters, RoS or T&D for prize support, so don't get your hopes up for that.

Any thoughts?

Sorry about that Hawkeye. Well, it's sad. People always talk about the revival of LotR: TCG, but they don't do anything themselves. Not only for this tourney, but for others stuff as well. :( :(

Everything comes as it is. And I can imagine that eventhough US is one country, the distances to be covered are huge ;-) I have in 3,5 weeks a tournament 100 km drive from my house and in May one at 200 km drive. I like it a lot though and that's why it is worth the effort. However, eventhough GenCon must be the absolute bomb when it comes to games and such I am not spending 1500+ usd to come to the US and play a few games.....

Even if you don't run any LOTR events you should go.  GenCon is loads of fun.  My prefernce for tourneys would be standard or draft.

As I just have started to get the huge itch for LOTR TCG again I am just seeing this topic.  I plan on attending Gencon at least one of the days (its only a 2 hour drive for me  \:D/).  Maybe a few of us could hook up and throw down on for a few hours if we are not doing other things at those times.  I would definately do a tournament if something is ran when  am there (although I am sure I would get my butt handed to me ).

If not, then I will just be hitting up Heroscape, and checking the vendors.

I'll be there, and I'll have my cards in my car just in case.
