Discard to heal
« on: January 30, 2010, 01:57:06 PM »
Hi all - this has probably been answered before but i can't seem find an answer myself. Either that or i already have the answer but want it confirmed (as not all players seem to agree on GCCG.).

Can i discard a companion to 'heal' a companion that has no wounds.

It seems that perhaps i can - using the pay the cost rule (discard), but ignore the effect if you can't do it. But, that is normally linked to the text on a card rather than an inbuilt rule.

Any help appreciated.

No. In fact, if I search the rulebook for "Discard to heal" I get this:

• "Discard to heal." Spot a unique companion or
unique ally with at least one wound and discard
a card from your hand with the same card title
(it may have a different subtitle) to heal that
character.

The key text is with at least one wound.

How about at Steward's Tomb?

Obviously can't heal but can you discard for no effect there? (Assuming there is at least one wound)

That would be a little different because you could just add 0 to heal a companion 0 times just to get rid of the event.

At Steward's Tomb, discard for no effect.

Don't ask me how i missed that in the rulebook

Ok - another question - if Steward's Tomb is played at a sanctuary then the effects of the sanctuary are cancelled? If so, i like the sound of that.

I love stealing sanctuaries from my opponents.  Then, you pull the card back with a site swapping card and play it at the second sanctuary! mwha ha ha ha.  You should have seen my opponents eyes grow to twice their regular size.  Especially since I was using mithrandir

Also fun is to force people to move again and therefor missing the sanctuary. Forced March is way too cool and should be in more decks, haha.

haha that's awesome!  I never thought about making them miss a sanctuary like that before.  If I has less dignity I would be rolling on the floor laughing about that.
