Well, logically, the Ring-bound/unbound distinction was made to reflect the Breaking of the Fellowship. Allies neither went on with the Ring-bearer (Ring-bound) nor went off with the other companions (unbound); they just stayed home.

Sammy has a good point.  As does Ket.  i would be pretty... shall we say uncomportable with an unbound hobbit deck which had 8-9 unbound hobbit allies with dauntless hunter, lockbearer, and wingfoot in play.
