There and Back Again

Hope you don't mind if I introduce myself.  Those who were on the old Decipher forums might recognize me as "simplegarak" from there.

I got into LotR:TCG from Day 1 (I still remember buying the Aragorn starter the day they released).  I have a complete set of the movie blocks and am still looking to finish out the last 6 (if anyone can recommend some places I could pick up some cards, I'm especially looking for Hunters on).  It remains one of my favorite game engines to this day and I still write about it sometimes on my blog.

Awesome... awesome game.  Some days I really wished we had gotten cards from Middle-earth beyond the core 3 books (hobbit, similarilion, unfinished tales, etc etc).

I hope you contribute often on the boards! Oh, and if I were you I wouldn't pursue the Hunters block cards. Its not worth it, imo! They are too hard to find, too expensive when you do find them, and too broken to enjoy. Do yourself a favor and don't bother with them and join us Movie Block fans.

I agree wholeheartedly.  Stick with Movie.  Sometimes you can get Hunters cards for a good price (every once in awhile), but they ruin the game that we knew and loved IMO.

You can bet I'm a movie block fan!  Though there are a few things from shadows on that I thought were pretty good.  In fact, sometimes I'd rather trade Mt Doom for Black Rider in the first place.

I warn you right now Jerba, I don't talk about LotR often unless the mood strikes me, so I hope you like SPN or random reviews.

Obviously my biggest concern is completing war block since I have 0 cards from Hunters and thus I could still fulfill the first commandment.

But part of me just wants a complete set just to have.  The card and the hex game.  In their prime, they were both two of the most well done games I've ever seen.

P.S. List inspiration: could you find at least 10 decent cards (broken OP ones don't count) from the hunters block?  From each set in the hunters block?  Hmmm....

P.S.S. Yeah, I remember crying the day I saw Black Land Shrieker.  I mean... an orc, without a name, stronger than the Witch-King?  A whole group of orcs, sure, but just 1?  Never!

quick question, do you guys still use just King sites for movie block games?

I've been thinking of a format but I haven't tested it yet.

Movie block style:
Sites 1-3 must be from fellowship block.
Sites 4-6 must be from towers block.
Sites 7-9 must be from king block.

Yes.  King Block sites are used.  I do like your idea for the sites, and I've thought of that myself as well.

My friend and I always play any sites we want as long as you have one of each number.  They have to all be from Movie Block of course.  Makes for an interesting game.  Sort of brings the site strategy of Shadows on without bringing the ridiculously overpowered cards!

While it does confuse the chronology, I also play Movie block with combined site paths. I feel it allows for more strategy/surprises and ultimately more variety. Also, we allow allies to come and fight at any site that is their home number, whether it's FOTR or ROTK. Goblin Domain works for all sites above the fourth site on the adventure path and cards like Forbidden Pool work for any site 6--regardless if it's FOTR or ROTK. The only exception being Hobbit Farmer of course to prevent OP catastrophes like Rohirrim Road.

I would say that all 3 allies who "gain text" from sites should just be set to not work.

Hmm... I'll have to propose the idea you mention sometime.
