Good Movie Freeps
« on: May 10, 2010, 11:00:58 AM »
So I've been getting a little bored with Freeps stuff in movie block.  I prefer all the cool shadow stuff that's available, but this game needs both good guys and bad guys so I can't just build a Nazgul fellowship and pair it with Corsairs or something.  What are some good/fun freep ideas people are using?  I find there are so many things your fellowship has to have an answer to in movie block: site control, corruption, condition/possession removal, healing, and swarm being some of the big ones and some of the more fun fellowship ideas I have get hosed when they run up against whatever it is I'm not prepared for.  Anyone have some free people decklists they want to give me that can solve some of these problems?

If you want to have a strong freeps, run Gandalf with Gondor men. Elendil can get rid of sitecontrol, Gandalf is there to hate conditions and possessions. You can equip your fellowship with plenty artifacts, all extremely well protected and only vulnarable to Grond, but with a copy of Roll of Thunder, that shouldn't be too much of a problem. That one of the strongest decks, but beware of 2 things: moving too slow (hence Radagast or Last Throw) and Fierce in Despair (so kill either enough corsairs, or nuke the Corsair War Galleys they will use to add a gazzilion twilight).
It is strong, but can be boring to the view of the neutral spectator. Another 'boring' concept is Preparations/Slaked Thirsts. Just kill everything before they can do all the nastyness. Once you have 1 Slaked Thirsts stacked on Preparations, you can run 9 companions, all fit to the theme of wounding. Make sure to pack a bit conditionremoval, in case you face Greed. Companions good for such a deck are: Gandalf (for the RotK maneuver wounding event) Eowyn LoI, Faramir SoD, Aragorn KiE, (to heal Gimli) Gimli FA (to keep Preparations), Legolas (I use Feared Marksman, to get rid of cards I don't need) Arwen, QoEaM....but people tend to get bored by it, cause when you can not handle it, you get terribly shot by it, no matter what you use.

Thanks alot, this is exactly the kind of stuff I'm looking for.  Maybe I'm just out of fresh ideas, I dunno.  I'm curious about that second deck idea you were suggesting, it sounds like it'd be fun to use.  I guess you would bid to go first then start the Dwarf site and pull Preparations?  I almost forgot about that Eowyn, I have yet to use/abuse her in a deck, this should keep me entertained for awhile.  What do other people use as their fun or successful fallback freeps when nothing seems to be working for them?  More ideas are always welcome!

well i have a deck with Preparations and Slaked Thirsts. but i start wiht gimli as a RB (i know my conditions are vulnerable), Greenleaf and Glorfindel. i have gandy whit Deep in Tought and Turn of the Tide and Eowyn, LoI and Galadriel and Elrond as allys.

and i use Shoulder to Shoulder! the idea is exert them whit Slaked Thirsts, finish them off with Greenleaf, in regroup get the Slaked Thirsts back and at next site heal Greenleaf and Gimli in manuevar whit Shoulder to Shoulder and repeat :)

and Shoulder to Shoulder can get you tokens for Deep in Tought and +3 str for gandy ;)

Gandy, Glorfindel and Eowyn are only here for back up, practically this deck could work whit only Gimli and Legolas :)

I used Slaked Thirsts + 4x Quick as May Be + 4x Baruk Khazad. As well, there was Greenleaf and a Elrond Lord of Rivendell / Grimir Dwarven Elder / Shoulder to Shoulder healing engine. Not technically legal by some standards, but it was pretty fun.

Gondor Knights are always a great fallback options.  MY build is pretty standard with a few tweaks that seem to work well. :)
Do not take dragons lightly.  They are heavier than you think.

I play movie for a long time and the first thing i always ask when questioned about what freeps is good is: what will be the shadow you will be pairing with? It's essential that your freeps and shadow sides works well when played together. Freeps that draws many cards are good to pair with swarms, shadows that could clog your hand are bad to pair with freeps that need to draw key cards early on, and so on...

General solid freeps are rainbow slaked, gondor or elves with gandy support, beatdown elves with the right splashes just to cite a few. But again you have to study your options depending on what you will pair with, and there are some very original ideas out there that works very well (and are lots of fun to play with!).
