Since making LOTR TCG virtual set stuff (see the "A fun way to play" topic in this "
Bag End" forum for details) for my playing group, I realized that there is still one group of cards we have that sits around collecting dust: "pre-Shadows sites". (We currently play with Shadows sites only)
Here's an idea I'm pitching to my playing group... I welcome opinions from this forum to help iron out any issues.
"I was looking through the "pre-Shadows" sites and started remembering how nice many of the sites were because they actually worked well with "pre-Shadows" cultures, which is most of what we play with anyway. Yes, the "Shadows" sites are nice too (being able to pick any site at any time, etc); however, "Men" and "Orc" cultures are pretty much the only Shadow cultures (plus Nazgul) that really get specific benefits from the site text. So I got to thinking... is there a way to get the best of both worlds?
Here's how it would work:
An adventure deck is made of Shadows sites (just like it currently is), and/or "pre-Shadows" sites (a site 1, a site 2, etc., each from any block). The way it would work would be when you play a site, you can either play any Shadows site (just like we currently do), or play the appropriate "pre-Shadows" site. For the "pre-Shadows" sites, since the "region cost" is built-in, the rule would be the "shadow number" cannot become less than 3 for region 2 sites or less than 6 for region 3 sites.
Here's an example of building an adventure deck using this idea:
Site 2 from Towers block
Site 5 from King block
7 Shadows sites
So as always an adventure deck is 9 sites, but you can now choose to "replace" any number of the "Shadows" sites with "pre-Shadows" sites. As always, you can't have multiples of the same site name, or multiples of the same "site number". When playing a site on the adventure path you would have to play the appropriate "pre-Shadows" site if you have it in your adventure deck, but otherwise can play any "Shadows" site.
Anyway, I'd thought I throw this idea out there. There were some really cool sites that were awesome for specific decks. If there are specific sites that would need to be "fixed" (e.g.
Ettenmoors from the Fellowship block, so it doesn't work on Enduring characters is the one that comes to mind), I can quickly add a v-card to the Virtual Set Collection, so we don't have to memorize it)."
Thanks, and I welcome your feedback.
