Lend Us Your Threats
« on: June 04, 2010, 12:57:14 PM »
I've started to see very similar decks to this one on GCCG so I wanted to post mine (kind of copyright   )
Freeps are quite good, destroy most shadows, however a little bit of luck is needed at the beginning. Shadow is what Heije called "pimp my southron", quite devastating even though a bit expensive.

Freeps:                                                                         Shadow:
The One Ring, Answer to all Riddles                                        Minions:
                                                                                                4x Mumak Chieftain
Fellowship:                                                                    3x Southron Chieftain
                                                                                                2x Desert Lord
1x Gimli, BoG (start)                                                                 3x Desert Fighter
1x Arwen, FEM (start)                                                              3x Desert Villain
1x Glorfindel, RiW (start)                                                         4x Troop of Haradrim
4x Gil Galad, EHK                                                                     2x Southron Captain
1x Naith Warband
2x Sam, SoH                                                                            Possesions:
                                                                                                 4x Mumakil
                                                                                                 2x Raider Halberd
Allies:
3x Elrond, Herald to Gil-Galad                                                   Conditions:
2x Galadriel, Lady of the Golden Wood                                     3x Rallying Call
                                                                                                 3x Seasoned Leader
Artifacts and Possesions:                                                2x Line of Defense
1x Gimli's Battle Axe                                                                   4x Field of the Fallen
1x Phial of Galadriel
1x Dwarven Armor
1x Gimli's Helm
1x Asfaloth
1x Gwemegil
1x Elven Sword
2x Naith Longbow
2x Aiglos
1x Nenya
1x Vilya
2x Ring of Guile

Conditions:
2x Shoulder to shoulder

Events:
3x Lend us your Aid
3x Secret Sentinels
2x Alliance Reforged

Ok, that's a 39/39 deck. Maybe too much, but I rarely have draw problems.

Freeps: I love them. Once setup, completely indestructible. Bid 0, if you win the roll, go first. Play whatever you have. They can leave a lot of twilight with Gil Galad, Elrond and Galadriel, but so far when I got them in my first hand, I survived with no problem. All comps are strong by them selves and with little Aid, they kick #$&*@!. Manuever is the phase where most things happen with this deck. Play Lend us your Aid, exert allies and heal gimli with Shoulder to shoulder, take event back with Ring of Guile, play it again. All comps are str +6 until regroup and I can mass heal in manuever every turn. Wounding decks bounce off of this one. The only way to beat this deck once setup is through a good corruption. The only other way is to quick kill Arwen or Glorfindel. Then I can't play Gil Galad or Naith Warband and I am as good as done. This happens extremely rarely and with extremely bad draws. Even when I don't get Gil-Galad in first 2 hands, I can survive for some time. Due to lack of damage bonus, often are minions left in regroup phase, so if I want to run, Gil Galad and Aiglos pick them off. So far, my favorite freeps.

Shadow:

Shadow is what Heije called "pimp my southron" and I can't say I disagree. They get to extreme strengths when equipped and that is often.Southron Leader mounted on a Mumakil, bearing Raider Halberd and Seasoned Leader with Line of Defense in play makes #$&*@!. So the point is: high strength, high damage, fierce minions.
They are expensive, but I need just 1 to unleash #$&*@! upon my opponent.
Btw. Field of the Fallen is my favorite yellow card... it's soooo good. Bane of Saved from the Fire. It's also a great combo with Seasoned Leader. Make your minion str +3 with each exert, remove a threat to play another Seasoned Leader and do it again. Southron Chieftain is a great card with Mumakil. Line of Defense keeps my southrons safe til skirmish where they do their work. I love to get Southron Leader at City Gates and mounting him on a Mumakil with Seasoned Leader. That's almost like having a Southron Sauron.

If you got any suggestions, don't withhold them ;)

If you want to cut some cards...

-1 Gil-Galad
-1 Elrond
-1 Gimli's Helm

-1 Field of the Fallen
-1 Southron Chieftain
-1 Rallying Call

These are helpful cards but I think that you can do well without them.

hrcho,

Do you mind posting your deck in the normal fashion rather than trying to make it multiple columns? In addition to not looking very good, it is a pain in the #$&*@! to view from my phone, where the smaller lines end up showing as:

x1 Gimli, BoG (start) x3 Southron Fighter etc.

Posting the regular Free Peoples side, Shadow side, site path is much easier to interpret and will probably help you get some more reviews.

Aye, no problem. I always think practicality first, aesthetics later so I tried to use space as much as possible, but I never thought how it looks from a phone. Thx

I played against one of these decks not too long ago... I forgot how the game ended though.  Either way, I love the gimli healing trick. shoulder to shoulder

Seems a nice deck!

However i see many good shadow can "undone" your setup easly, like corsair or sauron, since you don't have possession dicard. Your own shadow would be a #$&*@! of a problem also, and so woul be Ninja Gollum. But no deck is good against everything and i think your seems good. Is Alliance reforged really needed?

Did you ever considered Grima, Wormetongue? The strenght of your deck are powerfull minions. Usually the best counter to them is fully loaded companions, like tank Durin, or Gorn + Anduril + Knife of Galadrim + Gorns Bow + The Last Alliance, well you get the picture... They can kill your guys or at least survive the meanest ones and Grima could help with that. But your deck is already too big. I saw he looks like kinda designed around get the maximum benefits of Mumakil, probably thats why you put some Southron Chieftain. So maybe you can swich some threat stuff for other useful cards, maybe New Strength Came Now with also help against annoying The Tale of The Great Ring and works nice with initiative.

The best way to see what works is playtest, and if you did that many times and it works, that's what counts.

I think you are forgetting the best Gimli healing trick there is. Use Dwarven Heart to heal Gimli, then use Axe of Erebor to discard the Dwarven Heart.

Also, to Pep's point, definitely run a copy or two of Blood Runs Chill.

Corsairs and Ninja Gollum are pretty much powerless. Corsairs can discard my possessions, but that won't help them much as only Castamir can win skirmishes and there's not much chance he's going to whelm someone. Sauron wounding is also useless, Sauron himself proved inadequate, Ninja Gollum is the shadow I played most against with this deck and I lost only once when Arwen or Glorfindel got killed and I didn't draw Gil Galad. Alliance Reforged helped me a lot, so I'm reluctant to remove it.

As for the shadow, aye, Grima, Wormtongue might be a good addition and I was considering an event or two, but I rarely have the twilight for them. I agree I lack possession discard, but I don't know if Blood Runs Chill would suffice as Gimli won't have that high a damage bonus. +3 max.... I'll consider it, thx

I'm certain you didn't played this deck against my corsairs yet... When you discard possessions, conditions, allies and kill companions in a blink i guess your deck would be an easy prey to it, specially cause you add lots of pool with freeps. Similar for Sauron... i was thinking at my deck that abuses Grond to keep your people naked and runs lots of minions.

Anyway, like i said, no deck is perfect, but i liked yours.

Aye, Grond is does makes things a bit harder, but I disagree about giving a lot of pool... only if my draw is very bad... I usually play Gil-Galad, Elrond and Galadriel by site 4 and once they are down, there is not much more pool to give and that's one of the good things of this deck.

As you said, no deck is perfect and this deck is certainly not the closest one to being perfect no matter how much I want it. Thx 4 the comments. I hope I play a game against your corsairs ;)

The point with corsairs is that they have time to built up. Their possessions will be there and with cheap minions they are likely to add tokens on the ships, which makes cheaper and stronger corsairs. Fierce in Despair could be annoying.....

Also, another outstanding healing trick. I've never seen it done, but I know it would work.

I am on GCCG. My user name is wtk (not 'wlk'). I have not uploaded it on my new computer as (a) it is a Mac and (B) I've been awfully busy.

Conceptually, I could put it on my work computer and play at home. But I don't know that I will do that...
