EPIC 4-players game
« on: August 01, 2010, 09:09:32 PM »
I have just finished playing in a 4-player game that lasted at least 3 hours on GCCG. It was simply epic, (even if the format was Standard).

Bebpc played No Visitor Pipesmoking Skirmish Cancelling Hobbits with Gandalf / Uruk Hunters with Site Control
cw0rk played Gondor Wraiths with Site 2 Men with support from Sauron
Elrohir played a beefy Gondor-Elf Fellowship with a Wizard Shadow (Alatar, Pallando...) supported by Uruks.
nazgul99 played No Visitor Token Hobbits / Uruk Hunters with Site Control

Basically, everyone was moving one site at the time, losing loads of companions until site 7.

Elrohir died at site 7 after a surprise attack from Beb who played 3 White Hand Invader with Gothmog, LoM while controlling 4 sites.

Beb's odds went up as he moved to site 8 with a lot of cards to cancel skirmishes (pipeweed and no visitor). He survived a site 8 attack which included 2 or 3 Site 2 Men alongside Voice of the Desert, ST who made them fierce and 2 Uruks. He still had many skirmish cancelling options and moved to site 9. However, at site 9 more men were played and Sauron, DLoM was played and his Throne of the Dark Lord as well. Beb called GG, he was swarmed by damage +1 minions.

nazgul99 then moved to site 8, Doorway to Doom with 3 exhausted hobbits. 2 died and Frodo was alone. However, at this point of the game, we had no card left in our draw decks. I played a Ruffian and another Voice of the Desert, ST. It was enough to make him stop.

Finaly, I moved to site 8 and he had more minions than expected in his final hand and kill my Wraiths and Isildur.

If any of you guys (Elrohir, Beb, nazgul) reads this, feel free to add more details.

Anyway, it was an EPIC game.

Definitley great and close game. Nice players too :)

Even though we did not know much about multiplayer - and none of our deck were construated for multiplayer - it was fun.

First of all, we did not know if the shadowplayers may talk to each other, about what they are would play. Further, I had Galadriel, Gil-Galad, Aragorn and Elendil at Doors of Durin. What happens at this site?

Somehow, the Hobbits were more vital and immortal as the wraiths or elves, who are supposed to be undying. One Saruman Follower prevented me to get full acces to my Wizardry Source - because I hardly could play any Saruman, aslong there was an active Saruman in play.

I had never seen so much death in one game before.  Easily the closest and one the greatest I've ever played in.

I don't think it would have gone the way it did if Elrohir, Bebpc, and myself hadn't been playing the Uruk culture.  All our cards could help each other.  I especially liked how my You Do Not Know Pain was liberating Beb's sites to help finish off companions.

This game also gave me a new appreciation for hard it is to kill Hobbits.  Thank you Sudden Fury.

Cripes! Most of the 2-player games I've ever played in lasted more than 3 hours! You guys must be as fast as Legolas' re-stringing.

You must be as slow as Gimli's sprint. :P Most of my 2-players games last less than an hour.

For what it is worth, Tolkien describes Gimli as being ridiculously fast in short bursts.

That said, most two-player games take about thirty-five to fifty minutes for me.

One Saruman Follower prevented me to get full acces to my Wizardry Source - because I hardly could play any Saruman, aslong there was an active Saruman in play.

I am not completely sure how this works, but I think you could have played Saruman, but the question would be which Saruman's game text is currently valid.

From the rules:
Occasionally in a multiplayer game, two copies of
the same unique Shadow condition may be in play at
the same time. Only the first copy of a unique
Shadow condition (or the first 4 copies of a non-
unique Shadow condition) closest to the right of the
Free Peoples player are in effect at any time. All
other copies are also active, but their game text is
ignored.

I am not sure how this applies to minions. Can another unique minion even be played and then one copy is ignored (depending on the position of shadow players) or it's not even possible to play it?

I think that it is not even possible to play.

'Occasionally' from the rules probably means, if I have Saruman follower as a Shadow player, he could play his Saruman follower when I'm the fellowship player. At some point, there would be two Saruman on the table.

But it's Saruman was a minion so it couldn't happen.

Aye, that seams reasonable. Thx :gp:

Similarly, if two people had, say Promise Keeping on the table, you would only take the effects of the one closest to the Free Peoples player.

Of course, if there are twelve copies of Under the Watching Eye on the table...it's a pretty short game.

Only 4 copies are valid. Others are ignored. Check out the excerpt from the rules I posted.

All
other copies are also active, but their game text is
ignored.

Although, 4 copies of Under the Watching Eye is still pretty nasty.

I stand corrected. It's been quite a while since I've last played multiplayer.

There goes the twelve Goblin Runner idea!
