Typically there is one assassin and five cops. The assassin posts clues about his/her next intended target, with a deadline. The cops have until then to decipher and deduce what the clues mean, and each cop can then "protect" one person...including other cops or even themselves. If the correct person is protected by a cop by the deadline, the assassin is foiled and chooses their next victim, and the process repeats. Of course, if the victim is NOT protected by the deadline, they are assassinated--and if that victim is a cop, they normally cannot be replaced on the police force, so the cops are then shorthanded--and the process STILL repeats, with
Incognito choosing another victim, posting clues, etc.
The ultimate goal is for the assassin to be caught by the cops. The cops each get two "arrest warrants" with which they can guess
Incognito's true identity. If they are correct in a guess,
Incognito is caught, the game ends for that round, and another person anonymously takes over the
Incognito persona, with new cops being chosen and a new round beginning. If a cop guesses incorrectly, however, then they lose a warrant. If a cop loses both warrants (two wrong guesses), he or she is off the force for the rest of that round. So these guesses usually come later in the round and are based on clues to the assassin's identity that any decent
Incognito will usually sprinkle throughout their postings, and also on information based around the assassin's personality, victims, and methods of assassination. It takes a lot of guesswork sometimes, but that guesswork is usually based on more and more evidence as time goes by.
Does that all make sense?

Anyway, to sign up as a cop, all one has to do is be one of the first five people to say they wish to join. If one wishes to be
Incognito for a round, they must send a private message to the current
Incognito indicating they wish to play the assassin next round, and the first to "call it" usually gets it.
So far, it looks like some of the "usual suspects" are signed up as cops: AgentDrake, sickofpalantirs, and myself. So there's still room if you'd like to join this round as a cop, Ulmo. It would be nice to have some new blood on the police force.
