The DM of the Rings
« on: August 08, 2008, 12:35:25 PM »
I like to read the occasional webcomic. The other day, I stumbled across one that I found (and am continuing to find, as I catch up on it) hilarious. Why bring it up here? Because it's directly related to something we all know and love.

The DM of the Rings (archive).

Now, it's ALSO directly related to roleplaying, of the Dungeons and Dragons-type variety. I have only dabbled in that MANY years ago, but I'm still able to follow along and find the comic quite funny. So I'd highly recommend it anyone, whether you've ever roleplayed or not.

Obviously, start from the beginning, but if you are going to read only ONE panel to decide whether it's worth slogging through the whole thing, make it this one. I crack up every time I read that page. :P
Best regards,
Dáin

I love these. The "walking stick" joke made me laugh. A lot.

Maybe you guys can find a bard and have your story of heroic Balrog proximity put into verse.

I've read it, hahaha...oh, yes, it's great. I love the start, where they're discussing Legolas' status as an "elven hottie". Orlando gets his comeuppance. ;) And...the jokes are even funnier now that I've played D&D.

In a similar vein is Darth and Droids, which is The Phantom Menace in D&D.

Heh heh.

Love the little commentaries beneath. And the battering ram at Moria.
Forget it. I'm not arguing with the computer anymore to try to get the sig I want....

I've only gotten through a portion of this, but I love it!  I liked the part where Gimli was so intent on finding treasure that he was whacking Balin's tomb with his axe.  Then he said that they should have built the door out of the same stone as Balin's tomb!   :D  Great stuff, thanks for telling us about this Dain!

So many memories from play sessions... LOL :D
Seriously, I can relate to most of those commentaries on the bottom, I'll open up a thread so we can share role-playing stories soon.

I've read up to the part that tells you why Aragorn rode a Warg off the cliff!  :D :D :D  I also loved the part where Eomer said, "I would cut off your head, dwarf, but I don't want to look up the rules on mounted combat right now."   :D :D :D  This is brilliant, a gift of laughter that keeps on giving!

One of my favorites is this one. But it is purely mechanic-based.

Hahaha yeah it can sometimes desolve into an arguement of mechanics during a fight which takes MUCH longer than 6 seconds lol.

I love when legolas is complaining he should have got exp for the balrog fight because he was NEAR it, and the DM sarcastically says: "O yes lets find a bard to put your heroic tale of Balrog proximity into verse."

LMAO

This is the second or third time ive seen this and ive read through it cos its so funny.
