Dwarven Archery
« on: August 19, 2010, 08:57:33 AM »
I just made this deck. I got the idea while commenting on MuadDib's Merry's Sword deck. So far, the freeps held their ground good and shadow killed at site 5 both games I played. To me everything seems pretty much ok, except for insufficient healing. I need more healing. Any suggestions are appreciated.

36/36
Free Peoples:

Gimli, BoG
The One Ring, ATAR

1x Eowyn, LoI (start)
1x Eomer, TMoR, (start)

2x Durin III
1x Linnar
1x Sam, SoH

1x Leowyn
1x Guma
1x Aldor

4x Hand Axe
1x Trusted Weapon
2x Rohirrim Javelin
1x Dernhelm's Blade
1x Eomer's Spear
1x Brego
1x Firefoot

2x Ring of Fury

2x Preparations
2x Weapon Store
1x Well Stored
1x With Strength to Fight

4x Slaked Thirsts
2x Blood Runs Chill
2x Delving

Shadow:

2x The Witch King, Morgul King
2x Ulaire Enquea, Lieutenant of Morgul
2x Ulaire Nelya, Assailing Minion
3x Ulaire Cantea, Faster than Winds
3x Ulaire Lemenya, Assailing Minion
2x Morgul Ambusher
2x Morgul Hound
2x Morgul Spearman
3x Morgul Destroyer
3x Morgul Whelp
1x Bill Ferny, SSF
1x Gollum, DaD

1x Ring of Asperity
1x The Pale Blade

2x Swarming Like Beetles
1x Flung Into the Fray
1x Stooping to the Kill
1x Fat One Wants It

3x Captured by the Ring

Shadow is quite good and very fast. Freeps are obviously the wounding type: exert in manuever, discard axes and javelins for archery to kill, finish in skirmish and bring back axes in Fellowship with Weapon Store. Freeps are ok, but despite all the healing I threw in (Leowyn, Guma, With Strength to Fight, Brego) it's not enough. Especially for my dwarves who I can heal on sanctuaries only. I just noticed I can remove 1 Well Stored since it heals only villagers and Aldor is not a villager. I was thinking about Elrond, HtGG, but he is quite expensive. Maybe Axe of Erebor and Dwarven Heart?

Ulaire Nelya, Assailing Minion is very underrated card. I love it. It's ability played a great role in both my wins with this deck.

So far, I didn't play against Sauron Wounding or Isengard Archery, but I don't think I'd fare good. The only chance would be fast shadow kill.

Weland could provide additionnal healing for your [Rohan] guys and if you want more healing for your Dwarves, add more copies of Ring of Fury. Perhaps that Merry, S could help you as well, you wouldn't have to use Weapon Store for the Javelins.

This deck is going to get reamed with only four companions (Sam, Son of Hamfast really doesn't count...)

You may want to consider adding a few more Dwarves--Linnar, Dwarven Lord comes to mind. And Rohirrim Guard would help with Eowyn, Lady of Ithilien.

Nah, I played some more and it seems that Rohan healing is sufficient, but I will switch Ring of Guile for another copy of Ring of Fury. Weapon store doesn't work with Javelins, just hand weapons.

I switched 1x Well Stored for 1x Linnar and 1x With Strength to Fight for 1x Hand Axe. I think that makes it much better. Thx.

Btw. 2 more wins with this deck, again shadow kills, although on late sites and of the decks had [Raider] Archery for Shadow. I didn't think this deck could stand against any kind of wounding shadow, but I am glad it did.

Well, Raider Archery doesn't seem like the most powerful wounding Shadow to me...

4x Under the Watching Eye, 4x Orc Bowmen, 4x Hate. Dang.

Aye, I agree. I'd need #$&*@! of a luck against Sauron Wound. Having Slaked Thirsts all the time against Hate and having Blood Runs Chill in the right time to discard conditions. Simply to survive until Shadow kills :)

I still don't see you surviving very long. Everything in your deck is based on exertions. Preparations. Blood Runs Chill. Eowyn, Lady of Ithilien. Pretty soon, one of those companions will be exhausted and unable to survive. I understand the idea of making a Free People's deck that is different, but I think it at least needs to be good too.

I wish I still stuck around GCCG because I would love to play any of my decks against this one.

Well... come back to the dark side...

I agree it requires a lot of exertions, but it's working surprisingly well. By just looking at the deck list, I wouldn't have believed it either. Maybe it's sheer luck, but so far so good. Most of my decks are made for shadow kills with freeps simply surviving.

I do like different decks and try my best not to make anything already seen.

At this point, better things to do. I am sticking around the site a little more than I have been recently to facilitate the sale or trade of the remainder of my collection (with the exception of my three foil decks).

Want some cards?

Dude! You gotta reset your priorities! Just look at me, I sold the soul of my unborn child to the devil so I can play LoTR. (just kidding... it wasn't the devil, just some big black dude standing on the corner of the street every night... who knows why)

Nah, thx. I've got my share.

When you meet a girl, lead with that. If she doesn't find it completely offensive, maybe she'll be interested in what is so great about this game.
