Just got some sweet Promos and needed somewhere to brag!

Went to a local game shop here in the valley and he had a few boxes of LOTR! (singles) anyways, I picked up 0P16, 0P17, 0P5, 0P18, and a Smeagol bearer of great secrets!  Oh, the lady of rohan and son of denethor were foiled promos!  I was so excited.  Got the whole lot plus a few rares and uncommons to round out my ranger deck for 16 bones (for those of you in rio de jinaro) that's $16!

Sweet, it's always awesome to discover a little trove of LotR, isn't it? Definitely an exciting feeling, because you never know what you're going to find - it's like opening the world's biggest booster pack or something!

lol i know what u guys mean. too bad lotr went out of style even before rotk came out... if i were to find anyone with tons of cards, it'll probably be only from sets 1-4. (sets 5 and 6 sucked) lol

I know what you mean.  This guy even has a few set 9 rares still on hand, IE saplings and durin!  Darn my monthly allotment.  The time before last, when I went in, I picked out every foil and rare I wanted.  The bill came out to ~$200!  I cut it down to $20 and walked out with a small handful of cards. Month by month I'll have to chisle away at his collection

@ ket: lol #$&*@!, man... that makes me feel bad purchasing all these cards. hahahhaa im already up to more than $100 the past 2 months and knowing someone somewhere is willing to dispose of everything for $50 is just saddening hehehe

I hope that I am being helpful...really, for a dead card game you can't expect the cards to have outrageous values unless the cards are particularly rare.

Very valid points.  However, his collection, rares aside, is still growing and is worth more than 50, and he knows it.  Nevertheless, perhaps I'll post the offer to him, you never know what will happen.  However, despite the few "gold mines" i found in his collection, I'm not sure how beneficial it would be for me, lots (and I mean lots) of C's and U's of which I already own 4 copies.  Then again, ten years down the road I may wind up saying, "Woe is me, if only I offered matt 50 dollars for his collection of LOTR cards!" *rents clothes and sits among ashes.*  Thanks for the advice Ket, I appreciate it.

When in comes to collecting anything, the prices are most influenced by supply and demand. LOTRTCG is a dead game, and I doubt he'd think anyone actually would pay over $100 bucks for little scraps of colored cardboard that he's had for several years. The trick is to pretend you read the books but have never heard of the game and offer $10, then let him drive it up as much as he dares. He probably just wants to get them off of his hands, and he won't try and overcharge you for them for fear that you might back down. However, you probably gave away the game by going "ZOMG, LOTRTCG! How much do want for them? I got Benjamin Franklin's in my wallet!"
