can't we just find out who is hosting it and try to ask for our game to be hosted too?

Aiieee! I had almost thought of trying to set this up in tandem with the lotrtcgwiki.com web hosting, but I think it would require an upgrade of my hosting account by a fair $$$ amount. wlk, will it be possible to preserve the current usernames/collection records?

EDIT: BTW, is this GCCG in general, or just the LotR module that is being shut down?
EDIT2: OK, might be able to do it cheaper than I expected with VPS hosting. ETA?

The whole server is being shutdown, including all other hosted games and modules source repositories.
Sourceforge is hosting only the core module (no specific game stuff).
We have some backup for the user database/collection.

I got a pc avaiable as well, but it needs to get linux on it and I dont know if my inetconnection is sufficient enough and what more is needed.

I'm thinking about VPS -- http://www.lowendbox.com/ for ideas? $3/month (QuickWeb) isn't too bad, and I doubt GCCG needs that much memory. This seems to be the easiest way. My current hosting provider does not give me root access or let me install the Linux modules I need (specifically SDL) without upgrading to "business" class (+$20/month).

Indeed, the best deal here is about 17€/month to get a Linux box with at least a SSH+compiler.

I'm pretty sure since you get a full (virtual) Linux distro + root access you can do whatever you need to do. I'm not so sure that I'm the best person to run such a server, because I don't much spare time for it.

Not sure, but somehow small footprint.
About 20-30MB/tables I'd say, and network is only using text commands (not much more than an IRC server).

As a comparison, the current(old) server has 1GB RAM and a 512MB link, was hosting several games/tables, source server, and was also a web site for other purposes.

wlk, can you add a message to the GCCG server to come to TLHH (lotrtcgwiki.com) for updates on the server status, since there are some players who don't have a username here yet and might be stuck when the server goes down?

I'm still on the fence with VPS, but if I decide to go that route, they say it can take up to two days to get the server setup. If I could run TLHH on the new server as well as GCCG, the cost to me would be fairly negligible.
