Houston Texas Event - April 15-17, 2011
« on: February 02, 2011, 09:51:50 AM »
This is being held the same time as the Star Wars big Texas event as a side event.

Fox and Hound
12802 Gulf Freeway, 2nd Floor
Houston, TX 77034

Message from James Barnes

I'll be running a LOTR event at some point during the weekend. It will probably happen on Sunday afternoon during day 2, but I'd be open to moving that if people can think of a better time.

The event will be movie block. That means sets 1-10 are legal (using king block sites), with the following x-list (which was the x-list at worlds when these sets were legal):

X-list:
0P2 Bill the Pony
0P5 Horn of Boromir
1R40 Elrond, Lord of Rivendell
1R45 Galadriel, Lady of Light
1R80 Ottar, Man of Laketown
1U108 No Stranger to the Shadows
1R139 Savagery to Match Their Numbers
1R195 Relics of Moria
1U234 Ulaire Nertea, Messenger of Dol Guldur
1C248 Forces of Mordor
1R313 Sting
2R32 Flaming Brand
3R38 Aragorn, Heir to the White City
3R42 Horn of Boromir
3R67 The Palantir of Orthanc
3R68 Saruman, Keeper of Isengard
3U106 Bill the Pony
3C108 Frying Pan
7U49 Steadfast Champion
7C96 Gondorian Captain
8C1 Aggression
10U2 Memories of Darkness
10R11 Galadriel Lady Redeemed*
10C91 Mordor Fiend

*Note: Galadriel Lady Redeemed was not added to the x-list until after set 11 came out, but most people think she is a huge NPE and prefer to play without her so it's just easier to add her to the x-list. If everyone wants to play with her we could certainly allow her.

I have a bunch of movie block decks built, so I'd be happy to loan them to people for the event. If anyone is interested I can provide a list of decks that I have built and decklists ahead of time. I tried not to build more than one of anything, so the decks range from really good to decent to bad but fun. I could also build a deck to order for someone if they give me about a month's notice so I can find the time to do it.

Houston is an expensive place to fly from Louisville, sigh. It's beyond my budget for a small event. I might be able to come to an event at Star Wars worlds in August in DC, though.

I'm sure we'll run some sort of LOTR even at Star Wars worlds again this year.
