Any Space Fans?
« on: February 03, 2011, 03:19:32 PM »
Not sure if we have any space fans but I love to go out and check out the planets and such with the telescope when I get a chance. I have also loved checking out all the pics from the Hubble. I actually won a contest they had to celebrate the 100,000th orbit. They pointed it at NGC 2074 and took a picture and printed it out for 18 people to celebrate 18 years in space. It is pretty cool, but here is a link to a few space pics.

There are a lot of pretty cool pic's!

Thanks for sharing, I truely love the pictures. Unbelievable, and beyond any grasp to me space is. A bit Yoda, textflavourwise maybe, but I think you all understand.

lol have to love Yoda! There are a few pic's in there that can leave me wunderin. I really like the Three Heavenly bodies where you can see the sun, space station and moon during a partial eclipse. Also like the Warm Fuzzy Sun, it almost looks like a orange with white mold growing on it! Trees on Mars and Ghostly mystery are pretty cool to.

I too downloaded 100 best photos by Hubble when they were published. I still use them as my desktop background. My astronomy knowledge pretty much ends with recognizing a constellation here and there, but I don't need a degree in astronomy to let my mind wander into an almost endless* universe.

*I believe the current theory is that universe is finite and expanding until it reaches a certain point after which it will start to collapse unto itself.

I especially love the more abstract/artistic/almost metaphysical aspect of the pictures, those being the Trees on Mars, Warm and fuzzy Sun, Southern Lightsfrom Space, Ghostly Mystery, and may many others I forgot the name of. I am not really a space fan (that trait was reserved for my cousin) but those, almost all of them, really caught my eye.

They are definitly pretty cool, I also have downloaded a bunch and use them as desktops! It still gets my head all twisted up thinking about it all. I mean everytime you look to the stars your looking back in time, and everytime an astronaut goes around the planet they travel forward in time even if its just a little bit.

Haha. I just now saw the Pic "Solar Stare". The first thing that came to mind was The Eye of Sauron.

I have decided to sell my 100,000th orbit contest print from the Hubble telescope. Not sure if anyone here would be interested in it but here is a link.

Not sure if anyone here was interested in that NASA Hubble print but it is in the last 10 hours or so of it. If anyone here won it and wanted that frame it is in I could also send it too. It is kinda cheap though I would probably get a nice one for it or build one maybe. Just a heads up though and thanks for looking.

Peace,
Brian

True, those are pretty cool too! Gets me to thinking about MC Escher and his Tessellations! Math is everywhere!
