GCCG is a fun way to enjoy LotR online, and we want it to stay that way. FUN. To help with that purpose, here are two simple rules to keep it enjoyable:
1) Don't cheat.
2) Don't be an ___insert favorite expletive here__ to other players.
Cheating includes, but is not limited to...- Starting games and immediately (or very quickly) ending them to rack up virtual cash.
- Creating new users to give cash and/or cards to other users.
- Robbing other players of the win due them by quitting out.
- Stupid tricks or exploits that crash the server,* make users unable to play regularly,** and so on.
Being a #$&*@! includes, but is certainly not limited to...- Cheating, of course.
- Directly insulting other users.
- Spamming a game or the lobby.
- Being a sore loser.
- Using offensive language.***
- Slurs against religion, race, gender, culture or sexuality.
All games and the lobby are logged. Although I do not comb the logs by hand (nice bedtime reading and all), there are some scripts I can run to detect cheaters (in case of quick cash games) and I can verify any reports. If a few users report you are being a jerk, then for the sake of the others you may be removed from being able to play GCCG. Also, keep in mind that some TLHH members have been here for years and will receive more credence when it comes to their side of an issue vs. new GCCG players.
So the possible consequences?- People will most likely not want to play with you if you are reported to be a cheater or a jerk. Just sayin'...
- Deletion of your user account (common if you've been cheating with money/collecting).
- Temporary banning--a few days. If the server seems down, it may just be you.
- Permanent banning. Now it really is just you.
Other tips:- People will want to play with you more often if you are a FUN opponent. Have a sense of humor.
- We all make mistakes while playing. While sometimes it's not fair to go back and replay a phase, other times you should cut your opponent some slack. Use your best judgment.
- It's usually not worthwhile to rush phases, especially without giving your opponent a chance to react and play cards / use abilities.
FAQ:- What should I do if someone violates the rules?
Report them here on the forums and I will look into it.
- It's a free country!!1!!1! Can't I do what I want?!
You sure can. And so can I. See you on the flip side.
- But I don't care about win/loss record and collections! So what if I quit?
You may not care, but most other players do.
- What about lag/dropped connections?
For sure, internet problems happen. If you lose your connection, please contact your opponent ASAP and let them know what happened / plan a time to finish.
- But what about...?
(Ask any questions and I will add them to the list!)
Notes:*Such as the old token bug.
**Such as Mager's "where'd it go?"
***This varies from person to person. When in doubt, don't. With your friends, it's between the two of you.
