Arbiter of Knollridge Mill (U/W)
« on: August 29, 2008, 12:53:36 PM »
Well...the biggest concern with a mill deck is staying alive. I saw a deck like this at work and thought it was completely awesome. So, I decided to take a whack at a UW mill deck that relies on mooching on shooting up anybody's life total, then dropping Arbiter of Knollridge to ensure that nobody dies until your opponent is milled.

Lands (24):

Mystic Gate x 4
Adarkar Wastes x 4
Reflecting Pool x 4
Island x 6
Plains x 6

Artifacts (4):

4x Howling Mine
2x Coalition Relic

Creatures (14):

4x Arbiter of Knollridge
4x Wall of Shards
2x Mistmeadow Witch
4x Drowner Initiate

Instants (11):

2x Turn to Mist
3x Broken Ambitions
4x Cryptic Command

Sorceries (3):

3x Traumatize

Planeswalkers (4):

2x Ajani Goldmane
2x Jace Beleren

I think I finally managed to build a real control deck. w00t!

Ajani- Life advatage. Big time.
Jace- Well...if you can drop a few well-timed Cryptics and keep this dude alive, he can go off like a smoke bomb. Or act as another Howling Mine.
Traumatize- Puts you way ahead, no problem with self-milling if you drop one of these dudes.
Cryptic Command- Counter, save a planeswalker from getting smashed, draw a card or bounce an annoying permanent. What more can you want?
Broken Ambitions- Great counter if you can keep ahead in the land game, which shouldn't be a problem with Howling Mines. And then you possible mill.
Turn to Mist- Blink an Arbiter?
Drowner Initiate- Mill!
Mistmeadow Witch- See Turn to Mist.
Wall of Shards- Okay, now this is the fun one. The cumulative upkeep actually HELPS you. Because if you've got a couple of these out (8 toughness is pretty tough to remove), then you can defend your planeswalkers and spike their life totals massively so an Arbiter can hit play/get blinked to send your own life total skyrocketing.
Arbiter of Knollridge- The big guy himself.
Coalition Relic- Getting the big guy out a little faster.
Howling Mine- Card advantage and some cycling for them as well.
