Gathering Ground Store
« on: August 09, 2011, 12:17:40 PM »
Has  anyone purchased from The Gathering Ground (gatheringground.com)?  The prices are amazing (too good to be true?) and the site doesn't seem secure, so I'm concerned about buying from them.

I have purchased from them in the past, but has been a while, so I can't vouch 100% for their current website. I'd say if nothing else to give them a call and verify that they have certain things in stock, without mentioning price. If all seems well at that point, I'd go ahead and order.

That's my two cents, for what it's worth.

I feel like you could find the majority of what they have for cheaper elsewhere, especially when you factor in shipping.

Thanks Hawkeye,  :gp:

I feel like you could find the majority of what they have for cheaper elsewhere, especially when you factor in shipping.

I'm specifically looking at the Towers and King Anthologies.  With shipping, it's ~$40 total, which is cheaper than I've seen online.  Thanks for the input, though, it's very helpful for me to know what others are willing to pay for things (as opposed to what sellers are willing to mark-up prices to).

Thats probably the way to go then, I know I payed about $22 for the ROTK Anthology a couple weeks ago through iconusa.com but they are sold out of the Two Towers Anthology. I have been looking at getting a Towers one as well, but I was probably going to just go through an ebay store I found and pick up a booster box or two while Im at it haha.

Hills has them for 4 bucks for the ROTK and 8 bucks for TTT. You can get the box set for just a little bit more.

ROTK , TTT  and here is a link to the main LOTR section. Hills LOTR

I did order from Gathering Ground in the end.  It seems that they do most of their sales in person rather than online, which is why the website was a little odd.  However, the cards arrived safely and transaction went well (paypal) so I'd be willing to buy again.

Pros:
decent sealed selection
prices are decent to good before shipping.  It can be a good deal if you're ordering bulk

Cons:
took about 2 business days for them to ship the order
no e-mail order confirmation (not a problem, but out of my experience for online shopping)
website doesn't say if the items are in stock or not.  They never answered my e-mail about it, so I ended up calling
