U/R Twin
« on: August 27, 2011, 05:26:57 AM »
4x ponder
4x preordain
4x gitaxian probe
4x deceiver exarch
4x splinter twin
2x twisted image
4x shrine of piercing vision
3x mana leak
4x into the roil

3x halimar depths
1x arid mesa
1x misty rainforest
4x scalding tarn
8x island
6x mountain

Simple: Cantrip like crazy fetch combo, end of opponents turn 3 drop exarch, turn 4 drop splinter twin and tap for infinite exarchs!

I dont like the pod and black variations as it dilutes the focus on getting the combo as fast as possible as nothing else matters. Im about 77% win rate with it.

I play an ascension deck that also features splinter twin for nice results. The advantage with Pod is that it doesnt rely on the Twin combo. A well times memoricide is a GG against you.

I took this to FNM and went went 7-2. My only loss coming as a 1-2 due to a mono black players sideboard. Turn 1 inquisition of kozliek, minus exarch, pay 2 life surgical extraction it. :( Oops.

I am willing to accept that one bad match up though. Any combo decks die to memoricide/surgical so I decided I am going to man up and take the risk. I sideboard in 3 mental misstep though. I only have survive to turn 4 and i win usually.

So I know what you mean but I find u/r is more consistent than pod but has a larger frailty.

Besides I'm an edh player having sold all my standard cards to purchase a commander card pool. :) So u/r twin is a relatively budget deck thats fun to use.

Twisted Image is cool, and I can get behind maindecking it, but Gitaxian Probe is not needed in such a high amount. Chances are, you're gonna need 1 in a game, at most, to plan better, since you'll usually just wait until the coast is clear to go off anyway. I also think 4/4 in Ponder/Preordain is just too much, not sure it's needed, I'd probably maindeck Pyroclasm to stay alive, and be happy playing the other. 1 less Shrine could probably also make the cut, and I've seen some lists running 1-2 See Beyond, which while not optimal, is also no terrible, either, a lot of times I'm stuck with 2 twins. 1 Inferno Titan at the top end, or 1 Consecrated Sphinx (or even a 1/1 split) might also be a good backup plan that happens to complement the main plan. I'd never run the deck without Spellskite, though, since Go for the Throat is quickly falling out of flavor due to Tempered Steel being a real deck and Wurmcoil Engine making its way back into some decklists.
