Gemp-LotR enters public beta
« on: September 17, 2011, 01:04:23 PM »
So I've finally decided to do an open-beta of the Gemp-LotR. You can find it at the following address:
http://www.gempukku.com/gemp-lotr

Feel free to register and play. Invite your friends, family and whoever you wish to join, the more - the marrier.

It should be fully functional now and all the Fellowship of the Rings set cards are there for you to use.

Browsers supported - Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, Android phones and most likely iPhone/iPad (need confirmation from someone). If you run anything else - give it a try, there is a very big change it will work.

If you run into any problems or find a bug, for example card not working properly - post in this thread. All feedback is appreciated. The server runs official rules.

Be sure to check out the Settings tabs on the lower-left during playing a game to speed up your gameplay. To get information on the card - shift+click it during game or "swipe up" it if on touch-screen device.

Not a big deal, but in the deck builder the top arrows for navigating the collection both have a pop out box that says previous page. Awesome job though!

Thanks, fixed it. The change will be visible, once I restart the server.

During game - shift+click, in deck builder - not yet. On touch-screen devices "swipe up" gesture during game for the same effect

I had a great experience using your beta! I hope lots of people start using this.

However, one problem I ran into, in terms of the built-in rules of the game, is that when I had various cards that all had "at the start of the turn..." texts it seemed I was limited to choosing only one of them to use. But in the official rulesyou may use any number of them in any order you choose (though you can only use any particular one once).

Please give an example so I could test it. I believe should have an opportunity to use all of them, game just asks you to choose one to resolve at a time. Once there is only one required action remaining, game resolves it without asking, so you might perceive it wasn't done, when in fact it was. I'll look into it, when I get an example.

I remember that when I tested it, it worked for me with multiple Goblin Armories (required action).

Thanks for the feedback.

Thank you for all the feedback I've received. I've managed to find and fix quite a few bugs, both with single cards and the system itself, here is the list off the top of my head.

1. Sanctuary now heals 5 rather than 6 wounds.
2. Ulaire Cantea can now discard weapon borne by character in its skirmish.
3. When card is attached to your opponent card (i.e. Black Breath, Blade Tip), the display no longer hangs, which prevents you from playing when you reload the page, it still does if Frodo is killed, will fix it later, as it requires a bit more changes... but the game is over at that point anyway...
4. When player moves, the next site is now correctly played from opponent's site deck, rather than from free people player's deck.
5. Aragorn's Pipe supposedly didn't work, in fact it did, it was just a bit complicated to use it. Pipes have the magical "spot X" which means you can choose to spot less than all of the matching cards, therefore the game has to give you a chance to choose a different number. In the past, the default was "0" for this action. Right now the default is always logically chosen based on the card. So if it's a beneficial effect (as in case of Aragorn's Pipe), the default will be maximum possible, but player will always be given an option to change it via popup, similar to the one where you choose number of burdens to bid.
6. Mithril Mine no longer allows Shadow player to play FP possessions on opponent's characters from discard.
7. Game no longer freezes when player has Wariness or any other event card that responds to "playing card X" in hand, when a new site is played.
8. When you move to site 9 in Regroup phase, you no longer instantly win. You actually have to go through the Shadow...Regroup phases again. But I got a free win off that once, haha. ;)
9. If you have finished one game, you should be able to join another one, even if the previous one is still displayed in the Game Hall as "Finished".
10. Added lots of stuff to Deck Builder (you might have to reload the page while you're in Deck Builder) - counts of cards FP/Shadow are displayed once you have ring-bearer, ring and sites chosen. Also the validity of the deck is checked and displayed. The collection on the right now also allows to filter the cards based on Culture. The buttons with images look bad, I need someone to do nicer icons with transparent background - please...

Once again, thanks for feedback, and keep it coming.

I've managed to play a couple of games and it seems that most of the stuff is working as intended. The game might require a bit of getting used to, especially the fact, that you have to click on the optional effects for them to work, even if they don't make sense to be optional (Goblin Runner, Goblin Scimitar). But it plays fine, once you get used to that and configure the "Settings" tab to your liking.

Changes all look great  Huge help for what you did with the deckbuilder! One other thing, I noticed earlier that if you change the caps on your username it will still log you in but as a different user.

Yes, the navigation at this point does not exist. That is for two reasons:
1. Browsers offer easy navigation that can be used at the moment (back button). So for now, I'd advise you to use the "Back" button on browser to return to game hall from Deck builder or Finished game.
2. I'm planning to add the navigation later in a form of small tabs on the left, so you could quickly take a peek at the game hall, or watch another game while waiting for someone to join your table.

Working on this is not a priority for me at the moment, as I'd rather fix any bugs that are found first, before adding this. Hope you agree, but just wanted to let you know, that I have it planned to fix it.

Hi, I just tried to edit a deck (haven't created one yet) and everytime I tried to click on a card (I'm assuming to add it)  it doesn't do anything.
