Evil Men Site Control Bomb
« on: November 10, 2011, 09:57:49 PM »
I was going through some of my old sDa Decks that I haven't bothered to play yet since coming over to GccG. I came across this one and decide to spend a little more time on it and make some adjustments. Not sure if I posted it before, but even if I did I made same great changes. Here is the deck.....

Shadow (34):

4x *Gothmog, Lieutenant of Morgul (10R88)
2x *Mumak Commander, Giant Among the Swertings (15R86)
3x *The Mouth of Sauron, Messenger of Mordor (12S73)
1x Bold Easterling (15C73)
4x Courageous Easterling (15C75)
2x Engrossed Hillman (15U78)
4x Mumak Rider (12R74)
4x Rapt Hillman (15U90)
4x White Hand Invader (17C128)

2x Countless Companies (12U58)
1x Rapid Reload (15U89)

3x Pavise (11C94)

Idea is pretty straight forward... Control sites with Rapt Hillman and maybe an Engrossed Hillman, Drop White Hand Invaders to exert, and drop Gothmog to finish them off. Here is where I made my adjustments. I was thinking to myself how can I kill off the Rapt Hillman if my opponent just assigns him somewhere so he lives? Granted with a Pavise he is controlling 3 sites and they can liberate 1, but I'm greedy when it comes to my decks. This is when it struck me.....TOSS THE PAVISE! Basically exert him to exhaustion then either play a Mumak Rider at your plains or battleground or wait til skirmish phase and discard the Courageous Easterling to grab that Mumak Rider and get the same effect . Since Mumak Rider doesn't state discard a free people's possession or opponent's possesion I figured wow how simple. When Rapt is killed your Pavise will stack nicely on Countless Companies for the next one you play. So Grab those sites, discard the Pavise and set up a nice bomb later with your White Hand Invaders and Gothmog.

I guess if I wanted to I could remove the Rapid Reload from the deck, but I figure if the opponent runs 9 companions or I don't get the twilight needed to play enough Invaders and a Gothmog I can set up the kill by using the twilight I do get, soften them up early and hit them with a steward's tomb at 6 and then just have to pay for the Gothmog .

Let me know what you think and maybe what would be a decent free peoples side for the deck.

Easily the harshest Standard deck of its time. I put in single copies of site liberation cards (Fell Deeds Awake) purely based on facing this.

Cards I would used for this instead of some you have

Swarthy Hillman, its another cheap wound.
Wandering Hillman, easy site control with some threat adding...
...which would be Vengeful Wild Man

I think Mumak Commander, Giant among the Swertings is overkill as he costs a lot for 2 exertions. The purpose of this deck is to kill in the Shadow phase.

Agree with GAtS. He will definetly come out for something else. He was just in there b4 I retooled the deck and I guess I forgot to replace him with something more useful.

Hi there,

yeah, agree with Jordy concerning wandering hillman and vengeful wild man.
Mithrandir I am known to the Elves, Tharkun to the dwarves; Olorin was the name in my youth in the West which is forgotten, in the South Incanus, in the North Gandalf; into the East I will not go."

I'd drop mumak commander x2, maybe 1 mumak rider (you have to play it in the skirmish phase because the rapt hillman's text works in the maneuver phase, not shadow phase, therefore) and rapid reload for pitiless orc x4. There you would definately have some crowd control.

With a deck like this you need to set up a hand and support area (countless companies with a pavise) then you play courageous easterling with rapt hillman ONLY if you can at least take 3 sites. You don't want to give your opponent too much chances to win skirmishes or maneuver events so they can't liberate sites, heal or cycle too much. When you got your 3 sites, you start playing your invaders and gothmog. This is why I don't think there is much room for rapid reload.
