Final Triumph
« on: February 03, 2012, 06:49:22 PM »
So Final Triumph changes how skirmishes are resolved from strength to vitality. So heres a theoretical

Lets say we've got a skirmish between Boromir, Lord of Gondor with an Armor, 10 strength, and 2 vitality skirmishing Lurtz with 14 strength and 4 vitality. The shadow player uses final triumph. Would boromir be overwhelmed. His vitality is doubled, but the requirement that he may not be overwhelmed unless is strength it tripled is still not met. Does final triumph negate that text, or is it pretty much useless in situations where characters specifically cannot be overwhelmed unless their strength is tripled.

Its almost a moot point. Sure, lurtz 4 vitality doubles boro's 2 vit, but boro's text is very clear as to what conditions must be met to overwhelm him. Those conditions have not been meet. 10x3=30.
yes, final triumph says to resolve the skirmish with vit so boromir would lose the skirmish, but not be overwhelmed.

You still resolve the skirmish via the characters' vitality, but Boromir still won't be overwhelmed due to his text.
All cards do what they say, no more, no less.

The rules should've thrown us an extra bone or two (previous discussion here).

It's not something I agree with, but based on (one interpretation of) "Only cards or effects that increase or decrease vitality directly would alter the resolution of a skirmish in which this card was played" from the CRD, Boromir LoG's text simply wouldn't affect the resolution so he'd be overwhelmed.

On the other hand, LoG's text is a measurement of strength, not an alteration.
