I was actually on the other side of one of those. I was teaching the game to a kid who had just bought an Uruk-hai starter from Fellowship of the Ring. Since I had a tournament deck, the game would be really unfair, but since he wanted to learn and I was the only one available at the time, I decided to show him the ropes, phases, and such. I thought him about the starting fellowship, and the power of having an extra starting comapnion, by way of playing
The Prancing Pony. I played a bunch of equips, and moved to site 2. He played a single
Uruk Savage, and since I wanted to show him how signets and triggered abilities worked, I assigned the guy to Frodo, so he'd be healed by
King in Exile next turn. He played
Bred for Battle, and killed me. Just like that. The kid felt awesome, and loved the game from the start since he had defeated the local champion at the time, so even though it was actually a sound beating that I took, I think it was well worth it.
