What is the cheapest way you ever squeezed a win?
« on: April 17, 2012, 10:23:47 AM »
I just had such a moment on Gemp.... I prolly couldnt stop his ring bound rangers, but then he moved to site 7... cavern entrance, with 6 companions. One southron commander later, the bunch of rangers stood helpless as frodo was murdered....

That I agree was cheap.

I was actually on the other side of one of those. I was teaching the game to a kid who had just bought an Uruk-hai starter from Fellowship of the Ring. Since I had a tournament deck, the game would be really unfair, but since he wanted to learn and I was the only one available at the time, I decided to show him the ropes, phases, and such. I thought him about the starting fellowship, and the power of having an extra starting comapnion, by way of playing The Prancing Pony. I played a bunch of equips, and moved to site 2. He played a single Uruk Savage, and since I wanted to show him how signets and triggered abilities worked, I assigned the guy to Frodo, so he'd be healed by King in Exile next turn. He played Bred for Battle, and killed me. Just like that. The kid felt awesome, and loved the game from the start since he had defeated the local champion at the time, so even though it was actually a sound beating that I took, I think it was well worth it.

I pulled off a site 3 swarm in TTT constructed last week. I played two cheap warg-riders against him at site 2, he killed one during the skirmishes, leaving one to follow. I then played 4 more minions, an Easterling Axeman, two Easterling Skirmishers (he had 3 burdens), and another warg-rider. And since he only had four companions and no stealth event, it was GG for him. I never even got to play my own fellowship phase.

My favorite real-life win was during fellowship block, my opponent assigned Lurtz to Frodo at site 5 and tried to use Hobbit Stealth. I countered with Wariness and the look on his face was priceless.

Ah wariness. That card gave me quite some wins during the fellowship league.

Once overwhelmed a Frodo when my opponent was betting on that I did not have 3 ferocity in hand-I did so I won-quite cheap win undeniably.

I played a game on GccG once running preparation dwarves using Beneath the Mountains and Ever My Heart Rises to deck out and restack shadow cards on preparations and shuffle them in with Rest By Blind Night. I always bid high to go first play Dunharrow Plateau to get whichever condition I needed out site 1. I noticed my opponent was running a Galadriel ring-bearer so I decked out stack a cheap [Sauron] orc and 4x Terrible as the Dawn on preparation shuffled them in to an empty draw deck and killed them at site 2. Pretty cheap way to win, but was funny to see it happen none the less.
If a Balrog falls from a bridge and noone is around, does it make a sound?

Beneath the Mountains' action can't be used unless you have a [Dwarven] weapon in your discard pile, though. Here is this phrase from the rules:

If you perform an action that has playing a card
from hand or discard pile as part of its effect, you
must play that card. This exception applies to all
kinds of actions and all the different ways you
can play a card (except playing a card directly
from your draw deck).
All cards do what they say, no more, no less.

I know of a game where the player used A Dark Shape Sprang at site one and then dumped his hand using Gollum, Old Villain for the win.
