Corrupting pipes (Somehow...)
« on: May 06, 2012, 11:05:07 PM »
Free Peoples (37)
Frodo, Reluctant Adventurer - AtAR
1x Aragorn, Heir of Elendil*
2x Faramir, Son of Denethor
2x Gandalf, Friend of the Shirefolk

2x Bounder

1x The Saga of Elendil
1x Citadel of the Stars
1x The Tale of the Great Ring

1x Sting, Bane of the Eight Legs
1x Faramir's Bow
1x Anduril, Flame of the West
2x Armor
1x Sword of Gondor
1x Glamdring
1x Gandalf's Staff
4x Old Toby
4x Longbottom Leaf
1x Aragorn's Pipe
1x Frodo's Pipe
1x The Gaffer's Pipe
1x Gandalf's Pipe

3x Swordarm of the White Tower
3x Dagger Strike
2x Roll of Thunder

Shadow (37)
4x Gorgoroth Stormer
4x Wisp of Pale Sheen
2x Orc Patrol
1x Grishnakh, Orc Captain
2x Shotgun Enquea
4x Morgul Creeper
4x Orc Pillager
2x Gollum, Stinker

4x Some Secret Art of Flame
2x Peril
1x Thin and Stretched
2x Spies of Mordor

4x The Ring is Mine
2x The Eye of Sauron

Free side strategy is pretty simple, play everything during the fellowship phase, then remove all the pool you can with The Gaffer's Pipe and Glamdring.  Assign Aragorn and Faramir as much as you can, (once armor is out, you can heal them both in a flash with Aragorn's Pipe.)  Gandalf is here for the extra companion, and to help remove burdens, and for Roll of Thunder (some of the guys use Grond to great effect.)

Shadow strategy is also pretty straightforward.  Use Some Secret Art of Flame to get initiative during the shadow phase, and then just hammer with Gorgoroth Stormer.  Use Peril and Orc Pillager to play Wisp of Pale Sheen during the regroup phase, then discard him for an instant burden.  Orc Patrol gives some much needed condition discarding, while Grishnakh gives either cycling, or burdens (and let's me play my minions sooner thanks to the reduced site number!)  Enquea is a given in any corruption deck, and the morgul creepers are there to help finish the job.  Top it off with a late game gollum, and that will hopefully net you a couple extra burdens to help kill off the ringbearer.  Comments?

Aw...our little boy is growing up. Congratulations Haszor, please believe how candid I am being when I say this is your first original deck idea that I do not hate.

The free peoples' side of the deck isn't uncommon, but I would recommend dropping Aragorn and starting Faramir, Merry, Friend to Sam, and Smeagol, Slinker. Four copies of Gandalf, the Grey Pilgrim ensure that you draw him as quickly as possible.

Maybe a surprise Enduring Evil or two could be helpful. I know if I was playing against that deck I would be bracing for that card.

But the Shadow side is why I responded. It does intrigue me. I don't think that you'll ever corrupt an opponent with this deck, but I do think it has enough stopping power to at least kill key companions with Ulaire Enquea, Lieutenant of Morgul.

Four copies of The Ring is Mine may be overkill, but I guess it would have to be played to find out. I would definitely rather see three Grishnakh, Orc Captain than four Orc Pillager...keep in mind that you can exert him for whatever means you prefer.

If you want to abuse Gorgoroth Stormer, Gothmog's Warg is a must.

Yay!  I'm involved!

Are you saying drop Aragorn completely, or from the starting fellowship?  The latter would work better IMHO, because I'd also get to get rid of all the cards used to support him, leaving the space for some cards to buff Merry/Smeagol.  However, from everything I've seen, that Merry is best with an escape, which I do not own sadly.

Again, I don't have access to enduring evil, believe me, when I remembered that card, it was the one event I had been dreaming of popping when they assign a minion to the RB to stop thin and stretchedOrc Pillager is there to be exerted during the regroup phase so I can play wisp of pale sheen.  Grishnakh is there for his text ability.

As for Gothmog's Warg, I'll have to get that in here.
