GCCG vs Gemp
« on: July 02, 2012, 12:32:47 PM »
The title says it all, but I would like to know about the differences between the two programs. I am a former GCCG player (been very busy with finishing my undergrad work) so Gemp suddenly appeared and I don't know what makes it so great. When last I looked the big names on campus were lackey and GCCG, what is new? What does Gemp offer me that GCCG or even lackey does not?

A program that automatically enforces the rules.

They both have points in which they are better but indeed, the autorules makes GEMP top GCCG.

I got to look up the gemp website. I like it. As Jerba points out all browser based is very handy. Thanks for all your help.

I hate how Gemp destroyed the trading/collecting aspect of the game (I know, I've been saying it a lot). It just killed the whole thing for me, even though the autorule thing is A LOT better. Those games (TCGs/CCGs, if you remember) get repetitive more easily when you lose that.

Gemp does run collector's leagues semi regularly. As you play in league games, you win prize packs to add to your collection. If you pull some cards you don't want/need, you can sell them back to the merchant and use the cash to buy singles.
All cards do what they say, no more, no less.

Yeah, but it's like what? 10 games every week? And what if I don't have the cards for the specific league? I'll sure give it a try when the next one's up (if I'm able to),  but I'm not keeping my hopes up

There are three kinds of leagues (so far):

1) Sealed
2) Constructed - all cards
3) Constructed - collector

Needless to say, you'll have all the cards you need for the first two kinds of leagues. Play in those for a while and you can build up your "My cards" collection. It doesn't take much gold to get a viable deck for your own collection. I suggest buying cards/packs from the movie block era, since that's where all of the collector's leagues have been so far.
