I actually found a local player!
« on: September 17, 2008, 07:05:03 AM »
I managed to find another Chicago SWCCG player on the PC site and we got together at Dreamland Comics in Libertyville this past Saturday. We made a couple trades and I tried out a couple decks against him - didn't finish either game, we really just wanted to try out different things. I found that I need more practice to get back in the swing of things with this game. I know the cards really well and can make a decent deck, but actually using the cards to their purpose is going to take a little while to get used to again.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is a good problem to have.

Anyway, first I tried my new WHAP(V) against his Endor Ops, but I didn't realize that I could have beat down on his lone General Veers with my Chancellor (4 ability vs 3 = safe battle), and he beat down on me there next turn. I need more red cards in my deck.

Next I went with my wife's Invasion against his WYS. This was just a rough matchup. I couldn't draw into any of my FOUR Darth Maul with Lightsaber, and he was doing a good job of keeping my force generation low with his objective, so I couldn't really do much to his smugglers.

Mostly we talked strategy and card theory and how to play certain matchups and be flexible. Bend but don't break - just like the Iowa Defense.

We both want to go to Worlds in Minneapolis next month, but he's out of vacation days and I'm out of money, so we're kinda stuck. Like I said, I need more practice anyway. We're gonna get together again in a couple weeks - the store owner and employee were both really surprised to see somebody bring SWCCG back into the store. They hadn't seen the game in a long, long time. They said that if we can get a regular group and tournaments going that he'd be more than happy to bring in product for us, so wish us luck!

So, yeah, if anybody from the Chicago area is reading this and wants to join us, you're more than welcome.
