EL's DC Thread
« on: September 22, 2008, 06:03:41 PM »
Well, I don't know what I'm gonna do with another thread around here, but I need someplace to vent my random ideas when I just plain don't feel like working in a constructive environment on my other threads.  :P

Some stuff here might turn into a set one day. Who knows. Some of it definitely won't (unless, of course, a combo LotR/Pratchett/Eragon set is possible...)

Anyways, I just bought the latest book in the Inheritance cycle this weekend and there was something I'm just dying to express in a card. So here goes.

(0) The Trial of the Long-Knives [Rohan]
Event • Maneuver
Exert a [Rohan] companion to exert a minion. Repeat this process until one character can no longer exert. The other character is strength +3 and damage +1 until the end of the turn.

Or maybe something like this:

[2] •The Trial of the Long-Knives [Rohan]
Condition • Support Area
Each time a character exerts, add a [Rohan] token here.
Skirmish: Remove 3 [Rohan] tokens from here to make a [Rohan] Man strength +3.

Okay, so it's unbelievably overpowered in a deck with mounts, or a deck with allies, or many multi-cultred freeps, or anything with Defender of Free Peoples. But I like the idea!

Anyways.

[3] •Theoden, The Red King [Rohan]
Companion • Man
Strength: 7
Vitality: 3
Resistance: 7
While Theoden is exhausted, he is strength +3 and damage +1.
Regroup: Place Theoden in the dead pile to play a [Rohan] Man from your draw deck.
"Ride to ruin, and the Red Dawn!"
Happy Hunting!

Maybe you guys can find a bard and have your story of heroic Balrog proximity put into verse.

Nice though sure it could be rephrased, exhaust a rohan companion and a minion. The character who took the most exertions is strength +3....

WTF? Ok like +1 is much more balanced or MAYBE 2.

Niiiiice.

You could probably re-word it better but otherwise it's a neat idea

Way underpriced. Maybe make it cost [4]? Other then that it's a cool idea.

Not bad...

"... until one of those characters can no longer exert" otherwise if another character is exhausted, the text never repeats, and it also makes the second line much clearer. Interesting idea, though.

Yeah, I'm with lem0n - it should be +1, then take the cost down to [1] perhaps. I like the other version better, but if they had different card titles they could make a funny combo. :hey:

He's good, but I think a bit too similar to Tall and Proud. Maybe some other ability for placing him in the dead pile like discarding/wounding minions to make the double move easier, or increasing the move limit or some kind of combination of these things.

Nothing new to add, really. I agree with the others, but Thran most of all.

Inspired by MtG. But would be a fun card.

[1] Barad-Dur Torture Chamber [Sauron]
Condition • Support Area
To play, spot a [Sauron] minion.
At the start of the regroup phase, if the Free Peoples player has fewer than 3 cards in hand, you may exert a companion.

Thought about changing it from "fewer than 3" to "3 or fewer" but I think either one works with [Sauron] discarding stuff.

On a side note, how would you feel about an Eragon DC set?

Great, you mean one with stuff from Brisingr? I haven't read the book yet so I'd probably avoid it because of spoilers.

Well, to do an Eragon DC set I'd have to re-read all three books again, looking for DC titles/lores all the way through. Unless of course someone has text documents of the books. But I'll probably do it anyway.

Anyways, up today in EL's wacky DC ideas - PotC!

(0) Belay That! [Pirate]
Event • Response
If a Shadow player plays a card, exert a unique pirate (or spot Norrington) to prevent that and return the card to its owner's hand (or, if that card had a twilight cost of [1] or less, discard it instead).

(0) •Jack's Hat [Pirate]
Possession
Vitality: +1
Bearer must be Jack Sparrow.
Response: If a Shadow card is about to add any number of burdens, discard this possession to prevent that.
"Commodore, my effects please! And my hat."

Oooooh, I've wanted to do a Pirates CCG for a while now. So much potential...but cultures would be tricky, to say the least, with all the side-switching throughout. That's about the only thing that's held me back.

Dáin

Both fine but i think Thran's idea is ace. Should be able to be played from your discard pile really easily!
