Move expanded dailies to their own day!
« on: June 27, 2013, 05:20:22 PM »
How about it?  There are some expanded converts and many of us have expanded decks now thanks to the league to help the tourney go off.

Plus people are playing 2 at once, which holds up both (theoretically, I have no data to support that).  I do have data supporting expanded tournies have been happening!

What say you?

This of course is all part of my agenda to get Towers Standard on the tourney block as well, so if expanded can become its own entity, so could TS.

While we're at it, we could have a different daily each day. FotR, TS, Movie, Exp, FotR, TS, Movie, Exp and so on. Not just I am fed with FotR right now, so a bigger break between dailys would be appreciated.

Well, the only issue with moving Expanded to a different day (presumably meaning the dailies would cycle Fellowship/Movie/Expanded every three days), is it would mean having Movie and Fellowship dailies less often, which potentially means getting packs less often.

Plus people are playing 2 at once, which holds up both (theoretically, I have no data to support that).

I am one of the people who routinely plays both tournaments at the same time, and it probably does slow things down some. Hard to say how much. Sometimes my game clock gets pretty low though!

I have to admit, I've grown to enjoy doing the tournaments simultaneously, though! It is quite a rush switching back and forth between two games. And you have the chance to double the payout you would have otherwise gotten from just doing one tournament!

Rather than do different days, I'd me more inclined to do different TIMES. Once I get called back to work, I'm unlikely to be able to play at EITHER of the current times, except maybe on the weekend.

This of course is all part of my agenda to get Towers Standard on the tourney block as well, so if expanded can become its own entity, so could TS.

The more the merrier! Although TS has a long way to go in terms of reaching the same popularity that Expanded has.

Lets just say that last nights Gondor FotR Daily was finished by ~2315 for me, where the Movie/Expanded double feature has me in well after midnight.

I like the different TIME idea. The late Daily is usually impossible to play for most europeans anyway, so it would be good to have something earlier.

Seriously, this is getting out of hand. It's even worse than ZooL's behaviour.

I think that statement is ridiculous. ZooL's behavior screwed up prices in the market, slowed down Gemp for EVERYBODY, and blasted profanity and ugliness across the game hall and in random games... not to mention (empty) threats to DDoS Gemp to the point that nobody would be able to play it anymore. You are saying that what he did isn't as bad as people who play two tournaments at once, abiding by the CoC and within the enforcement range of the game clock time limits allowed for games.

For Euk, it is as bad, as it makes the dailies almost unplayable for him.  While I disagree with him on the zool comparison, for him it must be as bad since he did not participate.

Let's get a cycle going of F, TS, M, Exp!  I want Euk to play again!

Also, this same day experiment sure brought in some new Expanded daily players, eh Draino?  You can't argue against that, and Euk is one of them!

I meant ZooL's #$&*@! behaviour towards others in general, not his merchant exploitation.

People who play both dailys at once not only ruin the fun for others (long waits during and between games), but also have the advantage with the packs. With those packs you can buy other cards, thus naturally upping the price of those. That is not the main point.

The main point is: While it is legal to play both, it's just morally wrong. It ruins the fun (which is the main purpose of gemp) for others. I can play 2 dailys per week, 3 at most. I also have 2 little kids and I need my sleep to releave my wife if need be. This I cannot do when dailys end up to 0100. There must also be a reason players like TinkerT, Tonyduva, opti96(?) don't say a word when the outrage in the main chat begins.

I'll just stay away from Dailys until this is solved. Even on FotR Daily Tournaments.

PS: Batmouse, thanks for bragging for winning both double played dailys. You didn't do it for the community to show abuse, you did it plain for yourself. Almost no day goes by where you don't ask for droppers to score not just 2, but even more free packs. The highlight of thisis one Rohan Expanded where all players dropped to score 10 free packs. This is also not in the sense of  gemp and should be forbidden as well. Queue in where and when you want to play. Not for the sole purpose of avoiding gameplay for free packs!

those are the best days for movies where i can assist in getting more people to drop from the expanded tournament to speed up the movie tournament. Truth be told to win the exp[anded tournament i had exactly 40 minutes of gameplay. none of my opponents played me in the daily thats why it went so fast on my end. I've been asking for it to be moved as well since i play from work and the likes of tinkert and sgtdraino extending the tournaments made it so that i can barely play at all. Wasnt a real big problem early enough so you have to do things that make it even worse like win both in one day and show the super abuse.

For Euk, it is as bad, as it makes the dailies almost unplayable for him.

Well, right now dailies essentially *are* unplayable for me, due to work schedule. I don't get home early enough to play Gondor, and have at-home commitments that usually make me unavailable during Rohan. That's why I haven't been in the dailies in the past couple of weeks. In fact, since the complaining really started, I haven't played any Dailies.

Let's get a cycle going of F, TS, M, Exp!  I want Euk to play again!

I'd rather see different times than different days. Here's an idea: What if we had FOUR dailies every day, F, TS, M, and Exp, with start times that were staggered two hours apart. AND each day, each of those dailies would rotate 2 hours up.

For example, Monday:

2pm F
4pm TS
6pm M
8pm Exp

And on Tuesday:

2pm Exp
4pm F
6pm TS
8pm M

And on Wednesday:

2pm M
4pm Exp
6pm F
8pm TS

...and so on. So, in theory, most people would probably have at least one day a week that had a convenient time during which they could play their favorite Daily. And for people with more open schedules, there'd be the opportunity to play in ALL of them, with probably not much overlap between the different ones.

Thoughts?

Of course, there's been pressure to change the times of the Dailies ever since Expanded was first added... and utterly no reaction from MarcinS or anyone else. So, I don't know if changing days OR times is even an option these days.

Also, this same day experiment sure brought in some new Expanded daily players, eh Draino?

Technically it was the My Cards Expanded League that finally got Expanded Dailies off the ground. Before then, we were never able to get enough players together to make them happen. The League finally got people motivated enough to build some My Cards Expanded decks.

its even worse when someone plays in both and then wins both tournaments

I know it can be annoying and inconvenient when a player does not play as quickly as you'd like. But there are many reasons why this can happen; Playing in multiple tournaments is just one of them. Gemp already devised its own limitations on this, its own method of enforcement: The game clock. If someone is able to play in both tournaments, and even *win* both of them, I say congratulations.

I meant ZooL's #$&*@! behaviour towards others in general, not his merchant exploitation.

Playing in both tournaments is not worse that posting friggin rape stories in the game hall, or any of the other various things ZooL did.

People who play both dailys at once not only ruin the fun for others (long waits during and between games), but also have the advantage with the packs. With those packs you can buy other cards, thus naturally upping the price of those. That is not the main point.

First, you make it sound like someone who plays in both ruins the fun for everybody. That is obviously not the case. Some people only play in one, but are not bothered by people who play in both. Some people play in both, and clearly have fun doing that. There are a few people, such as yourself, who are annoyed by people who play in both tournaments, and thus cause the tournaments to last longer, *even though* they are playing within the limits of the time allowed. This is no different than getting annoyed by players who are just slow, or have bad internet. There is no moral requirement to play as quickly as you possibly can, and there are all kinds of reasons why someone wants to play more slowly, or has to play more slowly.

Second, there is no "advantage" with packs, it is the same opportunity anyone else has when they play in a tournament. If anything, people who play in both are at a disadvantage against players who only play one, because if you play both your attention is divided. I know I've lost a number of tournament games simply because of something I missed because of my divided attention.

The main point is: While it is legal to play both, it's just morally wrong.

Totally disagree. It would be morally wrong if someone were intentionally playing slowly in order to deprive you of your fun, or to deny you the ability to play. That's not why people play in both tournaments. They play in both in order to have more fun themselves. Just because you do something that happens to annoy *some* people, doesn't make that action morally wrong.

Look at it this way: At the current times the dailies are set for, I can't play in *any* of them. Does that mean that the person who scheduled them for those times did something morally wrong? No, of course not. Because there is no intent to do me any disservice, that's just the way things end up sometimes.
