Pippin Mr. Useless
« on: July 12, 2013, 01:57:12 PM »
Hello all,
My dad is trying to find a useful version of Pippin to play in his 4 hobbit companion + Gandalf deck. He wants to be able to use 2C110 and 1R87. I know if I directed him to the section in the "read this before asking questions," he'll disagree.

One more note on "Pippin, Mr. Took", while we're discussing it. " Pippin's" special ability text, as with all special abilities, are individual actions that are initiated, costs are paid, and the action resolves to some effect. When you initiate this action, the action ends with the playing of "Aragorn". Note that you may NOT combine "Pippin Mr. Took's" text with the gametext of site one, "The Prancing Pony". Both texts are special abilities and are separate actions.

Does this also apply to 1R87? Meaning, he can't reduce Gandalf's twilight by 2 when he uses 1R87. If this is the case, he'll probably get a little angry/annoyed and ask what is the point of 2C110? I don't want to be the one to tell him, there is almost no point in having 2C110. Unless you draw Gandalf or Aragorn so you can play him in fellowship phase and then get the twilight reduction. Thank you for any help.  8-)

Correct, the only way you can use Pippin's text is if you have Gandalf or Aragorn in your hand b

So Pippin is for the most part, a useless companion, unless you use 1C306 in a hobbit/shire tale deck. 1R307 to remove one burden from the starting bid. And 2C110 if you happen to randomly draw Aragorn and/or Gandalf.

Yeah, Pippin's sole purpose in FOTR block is to be sacrificed to the biggest and meanest minion you can find.

Pippin (1C306) is a key character in my Hobbit deck for using the stealth cards. Also, he lessens the "power" in Saruman's Power.

I could be wrong, but to my understanding, couldn't you use Pippin's ability to play Gandalf to the discard pile at -2 in order to heal Gandalf?

I'm not sure what you're trying to ask, but no.  Mr. Took allows you to play Gandalf or Aragorn from your hand to the table.  It can't play them to or from anywhere else (your discard pile), and you can't combine Fellowship: actions.

Absolutely not. If you could do what you describe, Pippin's text would say so. Remember, all cards do what they say.

Well, to be fair, almost every time I talk to you, you argue that a card DOESN'T do what it says, but yeah, Mr. Took is pretty straight forward.

When have I ever said that? It's been my motto since day 1 that all cards do what they say.
