Driver's Licence
« on: September 26, 2008, 10:24:12 AM »
Just took my driving test and now have my very own, super-shiny driver's license. It's very pretty.

It was a heck of a lot easier to get then I thought it was going to be, and most of my mistakes were just because of nerves.

Anyways, does anyone have any humorous/enlightening driver's ed/driver's test stories to share?

Oh, and I think this warrants a LotR quote:

Maybe you guys can find a bard and have your story of heroic Balrog proximity put into verse.

I forgot to turn off my blinker and turn it back on when merging across two lanes. I still managed to pass though.

Funny story. I failed the first two written tests. However, KS has a 3 strikes you're out policy, which means you take the test three times, and if you still manage to fail, you gotta wait 2 weeks before taking it again. I passed the third time. Yeah, be confident in my driving skills. I haven't killed anyone yet, and its been 3 years, so I've learned. I now have a full blown license. It was shiny, until I kept it sitting in my wallet for a year.

lol yeah... I failed the first two times as well. But, after being on the road for a fair number of years, I can say that most driving rules boil down to this:

Check your blind spots, and always go 5 mph over the speed limit.

Heck yeah. 5 mph over guarantees that you're ahead of everyone and can thus not check your blind spots. Violating the law is the safest way to drive.

And...stop signs are suggestions. Seriously. I blow them all the time. So you slow, look carefully, if you can't see a car for 2 miles, then its safe to go through the stop sign.

Actually, in my experience, the vast majority of people go at least 5 mph over (5 mph being the approximate buffer zone for what does and doesn't constitute speeding), so actually, you're just keeping up with traffic at that point.

Ya know, one time I was almost creamed by a semi. I didn't realize that the blind spot on a Ford F150 was quite that large. I mean, I checked my blind spot, but I didn't check the whole thing.
Forget it. I'm not arguing with the computer anymore to try to get the sig I want....

What state is that? In Kansas, everyone seems to be going under the speed limit...

Maybe I'm really going 10 mph over...actually I frequently am... ;)

Ok, is anyone here a driver, NOT a pilot, so we can give the newbie REAL advice? :P
Hehe, sorry, EL, couldn't miss the chance to have one at you! But c'mon, it's been a while since I last taunted you, right?

I was hydroplaning and drove my car into a flooded ditch...

Funny story. My mom backed out of the garage into the side of my car. Its a 2 car garage, and mine was in front of the other garage, but she still managed to run into it. So now my right rear door is caved in.

Although I have limited experience driving in the US, Utah clearly has the worst drivers ever.

Then you have drove through Miami or any place in South Florida. I went down there to visit friends a few years back, and people there cut you off or even hit you and feel they need to give you the finger for not getting out of their way.
