Gemp Replays
« on: July 20, 2015, 02:14:35 PM »
Hey guys! I've noticed that sometimes when I click on an old Gemp replay that someone supplied with a deck, it's no longer possible to watch the replay, I'm guessing because Gemp deletes older replays once players have played new games (Or it could just be my PC). Has anyone else experienced this? Anyone have a solution? I like to supply replays when I upload a deck, but I don't know if it's really worth it if they become unwatchable quite quickly, unless I periodically update them every so often. But that'd get harder with each new deck posted. So I'm wondering what other people's experiences are regarding this.

The same happens in my PC. In each different PC I've ever used to view replays, 3 or 4 with different browsers and OS.

I think it's an intentional issue regarding the disk space of servers: if each and every game played was automatically recorded there'd be a huge new pile of trash data, with very seldom use. If we had a manual option to "save" a replay from being outdated by new game replays, the wouldn't be too much trash data to pile up.

Those "saved games" might even be limited to a reasonable maximum per user, to prevent even further an accumulation of useless data.

Just saying.

That sounds like a great idea to me; replays auto-delete unless you save them, and you can only have a limited number of saved games.

On a related issue, I think we need to be able to delete stats for specific decks. I've got a huge number of stats for decks that dont even exist anymore, but right now there's no way to get rid of that useless data.

I'll definitely second you there. Even when I rename a deck, it keeps stats for the old and new decks, even though I haven't necessarily changed many of the deck's features. That Casual Deck Statistics page is overflowing with stats for decks I don't even remember using.

Thanks Draino for supporting the idea. The current state of things is, the last 20 games you played are recorded (including time-outs before bidding), and are overwritten with new ones; it's a matter of overwriting.

Perhaps 10 "saved game slots" are enough for the average player, but that can be a bit short for those addicted to build new brainy engines. Do you know anyone? ;)

Man, you speak the truth! Like Dictionary says, sometimes I just change a dot or a misspelling in the title of a deck, and that little change means more useless data will be gathered as a separate new deck. That needs to be fixed; is not useful by itself and reduces the usefulness of the other data.

So with Dictionary, Sgtdraino and me, there are 3 votes. As long as democracy means something (or provides some help)...
